Hi guys, new to forum here and considering purchase of C2 996 - 03.

I went to see it last week, and noticed -as in the image attached- that the wheel 'hubs' and brake discs showed signs of rusting.

Now, not being very 'in the know' about cars, but having a longing to own my first 911(!) I would really appreciate some feedback about what needs to be done to rectify this. (NB all four wheels share the same feature).

Just as I'm sure you're wondering by now -yes, the rest of the car checks out fine with full porsche history, etc - and I would have a PPI and bore scope prior to purchasing...

The owner has had the wheels refurbed recently, and the rims are in fine condition - but the bolts, and what seems to be the hub and the discs have rust all over them.

MOT has been passed and valid until next year, but this is still quite an eyesore ...

Any advice/comments much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

What your referring to as the hub, is part of the brake disc.

Your options are.,

Replace the brake disc

Remove the wheel, sand, prep and spray paint. - This can be done with the discs on or off the car.

The corrosion of the hubs and the wheel bolts can be as a result of wheel cleaner being used. Some discs are more prone than others to the corrosion on the hubs and as said is said previously this is easily remedied with a wire brush and a spray can of silver paint. My techie repaints the hubs and wheel bolt heads as standard when it's serviced. You could repaint the wheel bolt heads yourself if you're inclined, though you'll need a soft socket/be careful to protect the repainted bolts when refitting them.

Thanks for the advice, glad to know it's something that is doable without changing all the brake discs... that's reassuring!

Cheers again for the quick feedback - much appreciated, and will keep you all posted if the purchase goes through smile)

The inside faces of the discs can often be really badly corroded even when the outside faces look fine. A decent PPI should pick this up.

I recently purchased a 2001 996 C2 and although the brakes worked they were noisy and rusting like yours. Iirc all the parts I needed came from Europarts and came to around £550 including new pads.

It's trivia, really. Just paint them.
