Hi guys, my 2004 GT3 is mostly used for track events, so some years ago we removed all the airbags & fitted a race steering wheel. Rely on the full roll cage, harnesses, HANS and helmets instead.

Unfortunately and out of the blue, I have to take the vehicle for a government licensing inspection, Of course the airbag red light shows up on the instrument panel, plus on start the warning in words comes on.

Needing to temporarily nullify these for the inspection! Have sold off all of the airbag components.... aaargh.
But I've heard there is a clever solution.
An auto electrician can rig up a timer to the airbag light so it stays on for 3 seconds when the car is started, but also stays on permanently when ignition is on and not running.

Anyone have any wisdom or insights re doing this? Many thanks

You may need to check for the correct values, but I used something like https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Porsche-2-7-Ohms-Ohm-SRS-... on my Subaru when I removed the WRX seats.

Fantastic product! Many thanks for your advice

Problem though as I understand it is that this device will stop the airbag light from ever coming on?, however you do need to light to show up on inserting the key to prove the system is active! Then the light is supposed to turn off three seconds after ignition

Seems like a complex challenge to solve!

Works normally on my Subaru. Light is on while ignition on not engine. Then goes out 3 seconds after engine is started. Just like it should do if the bags were in place. Has got through 2 MOT's since.

I guess the 996.2 must be different - when I fitted the Cup wheel to my 996.1 I just soldered a resistor into the loom in place of the airbag. The airbag light goes on / off exactly as if there was an airbag fitted. Cost pennies.

Check Figure.5 in

I cannot see that a 986/7 Boxster is different in this respect that a 996/7.

I'm just wondering what a 'a government licensing inspection' is?

It really isn't.

Putting the 2.7 ohm resistor in the circuit will fool the airbag computer into thinking the airbag is still there. I deleted all my airbags & replaced them with resistors on my 996 GT3 years ago and can confirm that the airbag light works as expected.

Thanks to everyone for your fantastic help, most appreciated!

PS the government inspection is a vehicle licensing one off issue, not an annual requirement

Update and great news!. Put in seven resistors today and all working perfectly, including for the seat belt tensioners.
Thanks for all the support
