My 991 GTS is now 3 years old and Porsche have kindly offered to renew the warranty
Apparently, my OPC will not renew as I have fitted Zunsport grills
Anyone know of an OPC that is a bit more pragmatic?

Mine warned me against fitting them, on the basis that if there was an engine problem at a later stage, they might invalidate the warranty.

That's not a reason not to extend the warranty, what about GT3 that have full set of grills.

I fitted them to stop the coolers getting hit by stones and leaking, the centre grill has no air circulation as it is already blanked off so you could leave that on

I would try another dealer if you have one close.

Milton Keynes

I don't think there is any reasoning with an OPC that takes this stance, even if Porsche themselves fit grills to other models

The quote I received: I can confirm unfortunately, we would be unable to apply an extended warranty to your 911 Carrera GTS, due to non-genuine Porsche products fitted.

OPC Reading examined my BGTS this weekend as part of PX valuation though comment was made about grills it wasn’t negative. I have seen non GT cars for sale at Porsche Byfleet with them fitted.

The problem I guess would be that if you did fit them then get an engine problem, what could you do if Porsche then said you’d invalidated the warranty? It’s a hell of a risk to take as far as I can see.

Result!!!

Explained the benefits of having Zunsport grills fitted and Porsche (Germany) have agreed that they have no adverse effect and will be pleased to take my two grand to extend the warranty

I have written confirmation that I can take it to any OPC with full warranty cover

That's very interesting! How did you get written confirmation from Germany?

I'd like the same for my car which is three years old in April...

Great news. clap Wouldn't mind getting a similar assurance from Porsche - save removing said grills. Who did you speak to (the OPC service manager or someone at Porsche AG?) and who gave you the 'confirmation' (and in what format - letter / email?)?

Thanks

I found the same, some OPC's would extend the warranty with grills and others either couldn't be bothered or just toed the party line

I insisted that our local OPC (who originally wouldn't do it) obtained something formally from PAG to confirm. I sent photos of the grills fitted and these were then sent to Porsche in Germany, our local OPC has carried out the 111 check and signed off the warranty with the grills fitted

The email I have is "PAG have confirmed it is OK to place a policy on this car with this modification"

I suggest you get your local OPC to contact Porsche GB as I believe they have handled this on behalf of my OPC

Teetering on the brink of ordering some grilles for my 997.1 GT3, having been on the receiving end of stone-damaged radiator bills on my previous 996 turbo.

Given that on the 997.2 GT3, which mechanically (certainly in terms of radiators) is nigh on identical to the 997.1 variant, grilles were fitted as standard by the OEM, one would hope pragmatism and logic would be the order of the day regarding warranty.

Good work OP!

Is it worth making this thread a sticky? It strikes me as a question that may well come along again in the future and would make it easier to reference to any OPC in the event of any conversation being required.

Hi there

I have just had the same issue with Porsche in Reading on my 2016 981 Boxster S - no way would they change their stance and claim that they escalated up to Porsche AG only to get a categorical "No!" on passing the 111 point check with Zunsport front side grills fitted. (Mind you, they were quite happy to try to charge me £273 to remove the grills.....)

I went back to the OPC, removed them myself, and sat there for an hour reading the papers and drinking their coffee whilst they finished the job...

Any chance that you could send a copy of that email?

Thanks!

My understanding is that you might get way with them at Warranty renewal (although the official answer would be 'No').

However, at trade-in, they have to be removed for it to be sold as an Approved Used Porsche. And the problem there, I was told, is that they leave scratch marks that have to be repainted.

Correct. If you remove then refit to get through the 111-point check, what then happens if you claim for a broken engine? Marks will show grilles were fitted and a claim could be refused. Play by the rules or don't play at all IMHO.

I don't know how the poster above who got approval managed it, my OPC were very clear that they weren't allowed.

Not sure that can be correct as I’ve seen cars on sale at OPCs with grills fitted and in fact quoted as such as part of the sales blurb. It seems it’s a dealer by dealer approach, even though there’s clear information from GB saying that it’s fine.

Exactly this. The only thing that is consistent in this area is the inconsistency between OPCs...

Anybody actually got it in writing from Porsche GB or Germany then? Mines due 4 year service at OPC Silverstone in June and has warranty. I have grilles fitted currently.
