Whether or not Instagram makes it seem more apparant but there seems to be a growing trend of GT porsches trundling around in the hand of polishers.

I find this particularly odd with the likes of the 991 GT2RS, heres a car that even if driven at half speed is not only miles into license losing teritory it also has the chance of having a huge accident with a dosy Sunday driver?

Surely a trackday with all of the nanny systems turned on is safer overall than a B road for these things.

Bit of a rant but cant the posers just stick with Aventadors? It also seems that its a UK problem as the Germand especially seem to use these things as intended.

Numbers is a very good point!

I only own a lowly 996 varaint of the gt3 but would readily admit im far more comfortable stretching it a bit on track than on the public road

Plenty of them on track in germany as you say

The good thing imo is that they will eventually be quite cheap to buy once the current frothy market corrects a little as production numbers are so high and as cmoose points out the number of enthusiasts has probably not increased at the same rate (plus loads more cars to polish on the market nowadays ala McLarens, increased production at Ferrari and Lambo etc)

You mean like this. Fast forward to about 1:34. I know, I’m supposed to just keep it in my garage and polish it.

The higher the premiums/overs/values, the less the cars get used. Especially as they become hugely mileage sensitive to boot. As you say, in germany the cars get used much more (well the new GT cars anyway) and that's directly because the premiums in europe is pretty much nothing or at least nothing compared to here in the UK.

The actual prices are not dissimilar though - a 200k car is a 200k car after all

I think a lot of them do get used properly. I’d say mor3 Porsche GT cats get used properly than Lambo’s by a long way! I suppose if you’re looking at say Instagram there will be a lot of people who post pictures of their cars alongside, nights out in expensive restaurants or staying in 5 star hotels etc

They did. It didn’t help. That colour looked sharp in the wet though.

Well your finger seems to be pointing more at you than anyone else, because in YEARS, there wasn't a single track day where there wasn't at least 2 gt cars, none. From Spa to Portimao. Maybe you are the one not giving your car a run and you think everyone is like you.
Oh and pretty much all of them were fast af and pristine. People detail, then add expel exactly to not worry about scratches and fancy details for the next years.
That's why you see so many at the detailers, they are there to be prepped to be used and abused without worry.

Ive owned my car 5 months. Done 4k miles in it and 3 trackdays.

Its currently having the weak points on track sorted and then it'll be used again.

In the same time ive co-driven my Dsds 997 GT3 across 3 double header Spa trackdays.

Both cars are mechanically bang on but clearly used.

Well, to be fair, if one has been doing trackdays from the time before GT prices started rising, then the number of 911s on circuits have reduced imv. Older cars like 996 GT3/RS, 997 GT3/RS are quite rare to be seen now (used to be staple cars). Newer 991/981 GT cars are used, however it is usually a smaller group of regular drivers as opposed to general owners.

The overs market has also created some skewed effects - some list price buyers are happy to use them robustly because it is free miles, others seem to want to limit miles to retain maximum value.
