Feeling the need to return to the Porsche Fold after a few years of exile. Most recent GT Porsche was a 997.1 RS which I loved , made some money on and then watched as it subsequently got sold 3 more times for increasingly crazy money.
That inflation of GT Porsches leaves me struggling to find the budget to get back in again but it seems to me the rampant inflation at least is ending. Now the worry is a real collapse in values seems at least a possibility.
As it stands I'm looking at a 997.2 GT3 or a GT4. The Cayman is far newer, cheaper and will have next to no miles but what will the relative value be in 2 years and 15k miles ?
Its definitely going to spend some time on a track and I have no need for it to be a daily driver or be especially civilised for longer trips.
What would you go for? Or is there another alternative I'm missing?

either or, a nice 997.2 GT3 is £100k + a few upgrades a GT4 will soon be £75k which means you can spend more on upgrades to the same amount.

more people seem to be buying GT4 than 997.2 GT3, looking at sales.

would you get a chance on the 718 GT4 ?

Of a 997.2 GT3 or GT4, I'd pick the GT3.

If you want a fun track car then I'd buy a Caterham 360 R.

Love Caterhams but GT3 is a better fit for my needs I think, Like a Lotus, it's just too impractical to use in some cases. Heading to Wales for the weekend or a cold but sunny Sunday morning for example- all entirely possible but their compromises are too great.

Possibly swing a 718 GT4 but too far away I think. GT4s are far more common, personally think they have a bit of a fall in price to come.

The 997.2 GT3 have been droping also.

I think you really want the 997.2 GT3 though.

I would not rule a Lotus, far more fun in Wales in one of those imo.

Pete, i think to drive you'd find the 7.2 a much better car. That said it's going to be similar to the 7.1rs while the gt4 is a very different car so if you wanted to try something new, the gt4 ticks that box.

Thats what I was thinking ST,
Had a drive of a 997.1 RS as well and whilst similar , the gen 2 car I tried was quite an improvement. Individual cars obviously with varying history , not necessarily set up as they should be and limited time in them but clear winner for me. Shame there's so much doubt about 991.1 GT3s mechanically (and PDK only of course-good as it is) , because I'd definitely look at them at the levels they're reaching now.

Nowhere near as powerful but can confirm - was even fine, even after 550 miles done over the course of the day. Off on track later this month too!

Its not about its comfort whilst driving, despite appalling infotainment, nor its undoubtedly wonderful chassis, especially suited to UK roads, it's about it's ridiculous access and egress. Too old to have to go through undignified gymnastics just to get in and out. In my Exige I once left my phone in the house whilst leaving and I just couldn't be arsed to get out of the bloody thing again to fetch it.
And whilst its tremendous fun it will never be able to match the thrill of a 400bhp + N/A 8500rpm motor doing it's thing on a Welsh moorland road

If you can stretch to a good 7.2 GT3 then there would be no question for me. It's one of the all-time greats (vanilla or RS)
