Hi All,

I am patiently looking in the UK and in Europe for a great deal on a Black CGT, my unicorn car. I am not in a rush as I want to buy right.

I am waiting for a good deal and whilst I hope it will appreciate, I certainly don’t want to stress if I drive it. It is to be enjoyed.

Important Points:
- I will put between 500 to 700 miles on her per year

- Importing from USA doesn’t seem like an option as taxes seem to make it too costly (I had a thread on this). Europe or UK car is ideal

- I will have to trade or sell some of my 991.2 GT cars to buy it (2RS, 3RS, Touring, Speedster to choose from)

- I haven’t contacted Porsche Reading, yet but I know from reading threads here they are a good point of contact.

- Car needs to be a well looked after example and I will do full PPF and put some modern tires on her.

Given the above, what is the right sort of mileage to look for and what is a considered a great price for this? I am unsure what the cars actually sell for as some asking prices might be well above sale values and many have POA.

Given Brexit is coming up and the markets are toppy, should I wait and see or perhaps sell some of the 991.2s and be liquid and ready? I am UK sterling based and all my current cars are RHD.

Please remember I am happy to be patient to catch the right unicorn at the good price.

Thank you

I have been looking, prices are falling as i have been offered to nice cars, low mileage with good/full service history which is vital on these cars,They are also colour and interior sensitive.
If you buy now you are buying at the top in my opinion, and if you use the car properly it will cost you, unless you can find a higher mileage good history car for sensible useable money.

I am aiming on brexit exit and £ vs E will i am sure come back,as a lot of other countries are struggling.

The new gt models are as fast and a lot easier to drive, and if you drive it so little it will be difficult to bond and learn the car.
Happy hunting, the guys at reading are the ones to speak to.

Asked to see a picture of all your cars together back in August, as it’s quite a set, still not seen anything? I begin to wonder why not...

They are not all in the same place as I don’t have enough garages parking at my home.

I have been watching the lower end of the CGT market on mobile.de for years and it seems to be rather stagnant. Sometimes cars disappear, I obviously can’t tell if that is because they sold or were withdrawn.
I remember 2 lowered priced black cars, one was at c 535k euros (pics looked like it was in the US) and one at 649k euros (close to Munich) I think with c 50k and mid-30sk km on the clock from memory. Black cars on average seem to be more expensive than silver from what I can tell. The price spread on mobile.de is quite wide.

Good luck, I wish selling my cars would get me into position to buy a CGT - still top of the list. Although mine would do more like 15k km a year probably .....

Edit: assume you have seen the black/dunkelgrau at Porsche Stuttgart

Your purchase history no doubt means you deserve a Speedster, but the mention of ‘flipping it’ before you even have it will upset those who want one to drive, cherish and live with for a long time smile

Edit. I was initially intrigued by the thread title as I thought I could swap my 991.2 GTS for a CGT.

Hi Juno,
Happy to explain. My dream car has always been a black CGT and values have been very high for a long time, especially in the UK.

Each 991.2 car has something special about it but they also share many common factors. Touring, 3RS and Speedster all basically have the same engine and interior etc. Touring is a toned down manual 3RS and the Speedster is a drop top touring with some cool styling.

I love your reference to a Royal Flush but these cars represent all the sports cars I own and they are not that different to each other vs say a CGT.

The 2RS is an EPIC car but needs a track to enjoy and I am just beginning to track with my Porsche Precision course later this month (thanks to this forums recommendation).

I love these cars and do right by my dealer which is why the relationship is still there. I have limited space and limited time to spend behind the wheel of a 2 seater so I need to plan the evolution of the stable in advance and if that plan can involve a CGT I certainly wish to explore it.

Also let me be clear I have never sold/flipped a single car, whichever cars I choose to let go now, they will get sold via my OPC.

I purchased one last week after a 3 month search. Buyer beware, lots of the lower end cars on mobile.de have stories behind them.

If you want a proper car with reasonable mileage the price begins with a 6. Higher miles 30k plus start mid 5’s. Low miles anything between 7-900k.
Nice move Sir. Enjoy beer

Assuming those prices are Sterling, they don't appear to have moved much since I bought nearly two years ago. Mind you the 7k miles I've done since means mine is now practically worthless laugh

Thank you for chiming in. I too have noticed a big range in pricing which makes we wonder if there is a big gap between asking and transaction price.

€600k to €650k is what I am hoping to bag a nice example for with 5k to 10k miles. I assume 5k to 10k miles is the right sport if I am going to put 500 to 700 a year on her.?

The car in Stuttgart looks nice, but seems expensive for 20k kilometres

Euros or £?
I was hoping to bag a car with reasonable mileage in 600 to 650 Euro range.

Unless everything goes down the toilet next year I think that is unlikely to happen.
There were only around 140 black CGT's produced.

Bloody hell... no ac and not serviced properly!

That’s a big no no... how can they justify that price?

I've had mine for 5 years and it gets used regularly. 2.3 to 4k miles a year. To be honest, unless you race or have done a serious amount of track time, if you only do 500 miles a year in a CGT you'll end up either falling out with the car or killing yourself.

If you really want one, go shopping in Germany, the best ones are there. Lots of good independents that will happily source you one.

The Germans don't service their cars if they don't need doing. They usually do it on milage rather than time. As long as you get it fully recommissioned at Dusseldorft as part of the deal I wouldn't be put off. Car does need aircon though. And very easy to tell if car has been damaged when they are inspected.
