991.2 GT3 - last real drivers car??
Discussion
Declaration - 991.2 GT3 owner!
I will not for one second underestimate the ability of the Porsche GT department to reinvent the halo product time after time - however is the 992 a challenge too far?
Given the additional mass and advancement of embedded technology, I'm struggling to project forward and imagine that visceral engagement that the current GT3 offers being a reality with the new 992.
Thoughts??

I think you could well be right,I think it might end up more like a GTR than GT3, it will surely be quick and look good but just might not be raw enough!!!I will not for one second underestimate the ability of the Porsche GT department to reinvent the halo product time after time - however is the 992 a challenge too far?

And Er yes I do own one as well

I thought this about my 997RS, especially when they launched the 991.1 as PDK only. The 991.2 has brought back that rawness, mainly thanks to that glorious 9k red line, that vibrates through the bucket seats and provides a great soundtrack both inside and out!!!
I’m also a 991.2 GT3 owner!!!
I’m also a 991.2 GT3 owner!!!

Lots think the .1 was more raw. You sure you guys have driven both
Now, now Throt, don’t be shy.
You’ve had both, so any input you can provide must be worthy of sharing, surely?

Oh, but then so have I! Problem is I got cold feet over the engine issues well before I could really use my .1GT3. Therefore, I’m unfit to comment.

I remember the howls of protest when the 996 replaced the 993. Then Porsche gave us the 996GT3. I'm sure the 992 GT3 won't disappoint either...
Unless it's a turbo
This I believe, summarises the 911, always has, and always will do for the next generations .Unless it's a turbo

the 992 is great for the next generation (of car), and will be the norm, as of next year.
I have, and, many more will have, other generations of 911 to hand so the 992 will be an addition to the collection.
Personally I willl be ordering a C4s and keeping the old GT3s, C2s and C4s
its just a progression until the hybrids (and/or) electrics are the norm.
and then, and only then will the truth be in the pudding.
I am burning petrol until the last minute....

Absolutely not. It'll be the same as the 991.2 but with a bit more

"The next GT3 will arrive around a year after the launch of the standard 911, meaning a 2020 on-sale date is likely. Walliser hinted that it would retain a naturally aspirated engine and not adopt four-wheel drive, giving Porsche a key point of difference still when rivals have gone with one or both of those technologies."
one of the 1st cars I cannot really fault (for a oem car), so chasing power etc or anything else now seems pointless.
It will weigh more, it will have the petrol filter, it will sound worse, it's bound to do less mpg also if they up the BHP to make up for the weight and filter.
If they do make a Manual, NA 992 GT3 with a real diff then that's great news in todays market of automation though.
Will they make a car that raw, time will tell.
They talk about dampers and better ideas, but the car is still better with passive 3 ways as proven by Manthey-Racing upgrades or the new AMG GT R Pro.
So what can they improve ?
Aero of course looking at the new wing design, and they could fit the RS brake cooling which is a great feature.
Sus well if you look at what AMG do, they fitted passive shocks, Recaro's and monoballs for the Pro R, like Manthey-Racing do.
Brakes would be a big move, oem units are heavy and basic design over what you can buy now, but they won't change that imo due to costs.
Really to make the GT3 the real deal, it's Monoballs to keep the camber/toes constant, a set of proper Carbon Buckets, TI exhausts, Some top end 3 way shocks, Forged lightweight wheels, lightweight battery and the Radi-CAL brakes off the 2019 RSR race car. and sadly Porsche won't do any of that as that a s
t load of ££££ that's £40k just in that lot rrp in parts alone.
Only feature I want Porsche do is the front brake cooling ducts.
oh and on the trick 3 ways I would like a in car control box to remote adjust them.
I also want a ABS controller device dial.

I've not seen the car, but..It will weigh more, it will have the petrol filter, it will sound worse, it's bound to do less mpg also if they up the BHP to make up for the weight and filter.
It'll have more power. It'll be sharper. It'll have better suspension. It'll probably brake better. It'll definitely be quicker. The gearbox in either PDK or manual will probably be tweaked. It might even sound better!?
It's a forum so appreciate your comments etc but you sound very negative. I don't doubt Porsche for 1 minute to improve on the current GT3.

I interested to see what the do body width wise with the RS. Now that the C2S and C4S use the same body, no wide hips for the C4S as was tradition, will the RS still have a wider body? Same thought go for the Turbo.
My guess is the GT3 (and GTS) will have the standard (C2/C4) body and the RS, GT2 and Turbo/S will have a wider body. Edited by Phooey on Friday 30th November 09:07
