911 GTS is one year old in January and although not necessary, plan to get the oil and filter changed as the intention is to keep the car long term (said that before!). Phoned local OPC and was quoted £660! Now expected something in the range of £250-£300 but not twice that. Can't believe, as was told, a 2-3 hour job so asked them to look again at the cost. What sort of cost is realistic given that it's at an OPC and how long should an oil and filter change take? Others experience would be appreciated.

Thanks

If it’s an out of phase oil change only, take it to anywhere with your own oil and filter. No need to go anywhere near an OPC.

However, it’s probably not necessary at all!

I elected to have an interim (annual) oil and filter change carried out on my 991.1 GT3 by my local OPC and the total cost was £300 - including them collecting and returning the car to my home. And whilst that looks good compared to the £600 you've been quoted, in isolation it is still pretty steep...

This is how long it takes me on my GT3 (991.2)
Raise car on lift
Remove under tray
Remove engine casing and oil tank drain bolts
Let oil drain for 30 minutes
Whilst draining oil , give undertray both sides a proper clean ( I'm OCD ! )
Refit drain plugs and refit under tray
Lower car
Re-fill with oil
Start warm and check oil level

One hour of my time , OPC filter and crush washers , Mobil One from Opie Oil , Total £90

My point exactly!

Though, of course, you forfeit the chance of having a nice OPC stamp in the service book by doing it your way (and yes, I know, as it's not a 'recognised' service point then that's probably of negligible value!).

Just been through the same process with my 6 month old GTS. My OPC quoted 370 for an uncheduled oil and filter change.
Decided to do it myself. £60 for 2 x 5 liter packs of Mobil 1 and about £32 for the official Porsche filter kit. Easiest oil change ever, took about 1 hour.

I’m thinking you should be using James’s OPC from now on !

That does sound a little trumpy. But, if the car is only a year old I wouldn't take it anywhere other than an OPC, nor would I get under there myself.

I'd call a couple of other OPC's, see if you can get a better price, go back to your original OPC and haggle.

Question;
is the .2 similar to the .1 ?
I only ask, as I've been informed by several (OPC and non OPC) sources that to ensure that the correct amount of oil is replaced, the car must be hooked up to PWIS ?
The oil level from min to max on the .1 is not much at all - is it the same on the .2?

Not sure about the .1 / .2 differences, but if you measure what comes out you know what to put in ! PWIS smoke and mirrors I think !

Christ on a bike, they're having a laugh - My 997 goes to Autostrasse every year for an Oil / Filter change, plus MOT and whatever service is due (if at all)
Last year I was charged £361 for Oil / Filter, MOT AND a Minor Service!
Now I know mine isn't under an OPC warranty but £600+ for an oil change?! Are they saving up for a staff lash up somewhere?!

My OPC goes a step further and let’s me supply my own Mobil 1 saving around 100 quid on their oil costs alone.
Cheers.

I paid £282 for an oil and filter change at Bolton OPC last year. It wasn't a scheduled change and rather than take my own oil they agreed to price match the lowest price.

I really don't know how I feel about this.

I don't take my own crisps to the pub, coffee to Costa or steak to my favourite restaurant.

I don't waste my money, but at the same time I acknowledge that businesses I use need to make a profit. To which end, I keep my OPC honest by taking other quotes, but I would stop short of taking my own oil. I suspect I have also benefited over the years for being a "paying customer" because I've had a surprising amount of goodwill from them.

I am not having a dig by the way.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. Asked the OPC (twice) for breakdown in charge by email and wouldn't take phone calls. Now £295 inc vat but still insist 2-3 hours labour!
Is it the case the initial quote is because many businesses are picking up the tab and won't be concerned about charges?

I am not sure how many people run 911 GTSs as company cars. Few I'd guess.
