Hello all. I'm about to realise a boyhood dream of owning a Porsche, and am particularly looking for a 996 3.4 convertible with a manual box. It's a weekend toy, which ticks all the boxes for me, including being able to take my partner and our 9yr old son out on a weekend run.
I'm looking to see if any 996 owners local to Edinburgh would be interest in meeting up to show me their cars and talk through their ownership experience. I'm more than happy to travel. I'm hoping that some owner knowledge will help with my purchasing (and also not having some car sales man/ private seller breathing down my neck whilst looking at cars).

I'm over in Glasgow with a 3.4 manual, happy to show you sometime. What I found useful was talking to mechanics at the specialist garages before buying. I was worried about the issues you hear about with the 996 & 997.1 but a lot less so after speaking to mechanics, and those conversations were behind my choosing the 3.4 rather than slightly later 3.6 996 too. Fantastic cars and I'd highly recommend. They can be pricey to maintain but I've spent more keeping my bog standard Forester on the road over the past 2 years than keeping the 996 pristine.

I'm over in Inverclyde (1999 3.4 manual coupe) so probably a bit far sorry.

Would agree with that good advice above!

Thanks for the info and advice. That was also my reasoning on going for the earlier 3.4
