1971 Porsche 911 Targa Stolen - Reg EYO 247J
Discussion
This car was owned by my Chairman. It has been in his family since the early 1970's. It is LHD. My Chairman sadly passed away in June 2018 and he never saw the restoration of the car complete. The picture above was taken around January 2018.
It went to an automotive restorer in Wales in 2016 to be restored. The brief was to create a nice usable example, not a concours winning car. In late 2018 it appears that the business got into difficulty. The car was actually at an engine shop waiting for the go ahead from the restorer to have some engine work undertaken although the restoration was all but complete.
A delusional employee of the restorer, who says he was owed some money by his boss, took the car and engine (they had been split) from the engine shop and has sold the engine to a man in Portugal for £6,000 and the car has been sold for £3,500. We can argue about the real value but this was a £70,000 to £80,000 restoration when complete.
I have not yet told my Chairman's family. They will be devastated because not only was the car valuable but it had huge sentimental value.
I have reported it to the police and given them the facts including the name and address of the thief.
The car and engine were only taken from the engine builder the week before last so I am hopeful that they may still be with the original "purchasers".
If you know of an orange Targa fitting this description or the whereabouts of the engine then please PM me.
All help is appreciated. Thanks.
I was looking at this on eBay only this morning,
eBay Advert
May not match up, but if the car was mid restoration and the restorers have just sold it on it could be at least a lead...exterior looks great but interior not so much. Either way i hope something good comes of your search.
