I can't imagine electric will be all that much cheaper, think of all the money in fuel duty that will be lost. No government will let that happen so we will just end up paying the same for electric I'm sure (my guess is some sort of road subsidy like Road tax but will cost 3 to 4 grand per year).Road tax isn't spent on roads, that comes out of general taxation, or council tax.
We've only got two taxes that go on what they are called (road tax hasn't been called road tax since 1939 on that note), which is the TV licence and fishing licences IIRC.
We might finally see the start of usage charging for the road network to make up for the loss of fuel duty, that would (could) be a fairly direct swap.

I think you are spouting utter nonsense. You are being suckered in mate. No different to diesel is the way forward. How will you charge your car when you live in a tower block, block of flats, terraced house. For those that have the luxury of their own driveway / garage it can work. But it is not for me. In the US they stick a gas guzzler tax on the purchase price. A $1000 from memory. Any lost revenue from fuel duty will have to be clawed back elsewhere. Anyone that thinks EV is the answer to cheap motoring in the future is dreaming. You will get right royally screwed. Be it built in obsolescence or replacement battery packs. I will continue to fire up my V8 every morning. An EV is about as involving and exciting as virtual sex and that is way overstating the joy of an electric vehicle.

You should check this thanhttps://www.carmagazine.co.uk/electric/electric-ch...
Hackney, Islington and Southwark, all rolling out new EV charging points now.
I'm currenly living in a block of flats. 5 neighbours got EVs already, they share a charging point at our car-park. I also think they are new models so the range is good.

All the EV manufacturers like to quote this time to 80% charge, but as I understand it, the last 20% of charge for many EVs takes nearly as long as the first 80% - i.e. the charge-rate is non-linear - so it's a little misleading.Reading a recent article by a journalist that went from Paris to Mannheim in a Tesla, they inferred that charging little and often was generally the best idea.
