I had a chat with OPC yesterday and asked whether he could find out more as to when the
base 992 would be available. He rang a contact in Porsche GB dealing with allocation
It will be available to order in Q3 2019 with delivery Nov/Dec
This is for PDK, I did not ask about manual
This fits in with my time frame.

Looks like it's here, and could it be the peach of the range? I know that, in the past, the plain vanilla C2 variants have often been highly praised.
I specifically remember the base 997 C2, with only a few options, being reviewed by several mags as the 'sweetest' road driving 911 - Harris, Sutcliffe, evo, etc. Oddly, that press car did have ceramics, and they were judged to have been a contributing factor.

My old neighbour had the base 997 while I was in the S, both manual cars and I had to grudgingly accept that his was a sweeter drive. Spent a ‘Test our whole range’ day at PEC a few years back.
I admit I couldn’t wait to get passed my drive in a manual, base, Carrera (dark blue, all beige interior, tiny wheels, looked awful) so I could get my mits on the GTS.
Standard car was a joy. GTS felt like a heavy lump afterwards.

Well the release figures are interesting, as with the body shape now shared with the S, and that everyone will get the S wheel option and only PDK... there’s not a vast difference in chassis or weight, but 70bhp less than the S...
So swings and roundabouts. Sometimes less power is more fun!
What I’m most intrigued about is that with the spec and performance of the S, and how the performance and reviews have compared to the halo models of the 991, apart from top-trumps pub banter and bragging rights... in terms of driving performance on the road, I can’t see any point buying a 911 above that of the S.

The C2 's' and 'non s' always shared the same narrow body. It was the '4' and '4 s' that went wide bodiedSo swings and roundabouts. Sometimes less power is more fun!
