Assuming the car is perfect in all other respects but you would be the tenth keeper. What discount if any would you expect compared to exactly the same car but where you would be the fifth keeper.

to head off the obvious question, there are no adverse reasons why other than 'life happens' that the car has been in more hands than would normally be expected

car in question is a .1 gt3

Most 2nd or 3rd cars are kept for very short periods of ownership. The ones with fewer owners are the anomalies rather than the rule. Condition is condition, service history is service history.

my sentiments exactly yet anyone on pistonheads is a bit more rational than the average punter? then again, i wonder if its more likely than not that the next owner will share the view given its more of an enthusiasts choice?

i dont want to look into the purchase with purely rose tinted specs. whilst i am of course buying it for myself to enjoy as a second/third car, i dont want to get out of it wishing i had just waited for a similar car with fewer owners due to the impact on residuals...

10 owners in 11 years is still twice what I would have expected. You have to ask why so many successive owners didn't 'bond' with it.

Car may well be fine, but I would still expect some 'saving', as it may stigmatise the car if/when you come to sell it

It would only worry me if the owners were shifting the car when they discovered a fault that was going to be £$£$ to resolve.

If they all kept the car well then it's not a problem.

I used to live in a place on a square that had a little mews behind it via which one accessed the garage, where there were a lot of nice cars parked up. One chap had a 355 there when we moved in, which never moved. Then that was replaced with a 360, which never moved, until it was replaced with an E39 M5, which never moved. He'd buy a car, have it delivered, then sell it and get another new car delivered and the old (unused one) picked up at the same time.

I parked my girlfriends 206 next to whatever it happened to be that week as he'd never open a door into my car, as he never opened the door.

im pretty comfortable that there are no hidden nasties... its been mainly sold and purchased through the dealer network and has been in warranty quite a bit

2 keepers found it too hardcore, 1 sold it to fund house move and another got out of it because he'd found an RS. current owner is moving overseas

I’d want at least £5k off the price of say a 5 owner car because I reckon that’s the minimum you’d get bid back from fair value if you ever sell it.

If its the car I'm thinking of, then its in great condition and everyone says buy on condition BUT one of the things that put me off was the very little documented history. For a car that's getting on for 12 years old, I was expecting a lot more than a couple of pages.

The next buyer may also think the same?

I'm owner number 7 of my car which has just recently passed 6 years of age and so averaged an owner approx every 10 months before it became mine.

when viewing the car the number of owners did make me wonder why it had changed hands so often, and whether this was a cause for concern, perhaps having some hidden issues which caused them to want rid,

It's understandable that high owner cars are priced a little lower and are slightly less desirable, but the number of owners seems to have less of an impact on the resale value when compared to mileage, especially on high end cars like Porsche

considering the high spec my car was well priced when compared to other cars for sale at the time with similar mileages but less well equipped, which I'm sure is a result of having a higher number of keepers, and I did make a point of asking if there was a reason people seemed to selling it on so quickly only to be assured this was often quite common with porsche in general and nothing to worry about.

I've had the car for nearly a year now and can happily report that apart from a couple of minor issues both fixed under warranty the car has been perfect and a joy to own,

I dare say when the time comes to sell I'll probably take a bit of a hit due to the number of owners, but I plan on keeping the car for a few years yet which will hopefully even things out a bit when I'm ready to move on.

I had a 987 Boxster S with a similar number of owners. I had it for about a year and in that time it never skipped a beat. It was in fantastic condition and the new owners inform me it’s still as great two years on. Buy on condition, as has been said already.

OP

Is the car a 997.1 or a 991.1?

This

I explained my rationale on a similar thread, out of 10 owners I will assume 5 did not look after it with mechanical sympathy. 2 owners with 5 years each I would assume the opposite

I was 5th owner on my 3 year old GT3 and it made zero difference when I sold it back to OPC, cars condition was also as new.

Or 996.1. Who can tell.

Maybe it’s Windows 3.1 silly

I'm the 8th owner of my GT3 and it had 28k on it when I got it. It's as new condition and was on OPC warranty until last year so has never wanted for anything.

Buy on condition.

its a 997.1 and there is a detailed account of who has had the car when and for how long and reason for sale. as mentioned above, 5 of them got out quickly but not for sinister reasons. its just had a 111 and wants for nothing save for a new battery and tyre sealant...

if it was a boggo sofa spec with steels and adaptives or sports seats it would be a lot easier... the fact it has a unique spec makes it bit trickier ie pccbs, buckets, extended leather, colour coded centre console

and to the chaps on here that have owned or know it you are not allowed to contribute to this thread!
