Hi I’m not a regular on here just looking for a bit advice. I’m looking at purchasing a 991.1 GT3 in the near future. What’s people’s thoughts on the depreciation of these cars? Will they drop lower than a 100K. They are fetching anywhere from 110k-120k at the moment depending on spec and mileage. Im aware im going to lose a bit of money I just don’t want to do my beans. Thanks

I would skip the 991.1. Get a 997.2 or a 991.2.

Why’s that? The 991.2 gt3 are still making huge premiums i would say 30-40k more in price than the 991.1. Do they warrant that?. I’m totally aware that the 997.2 are a fantastic solid investment at the moment. Just find them slightly dated looking now.

Seems a few people slate the 991.1 but I have not had a single issue with mine and it’s used as Porsche intended it to be.

I am currently expecting a new car so mine could be for sale in the next few months if you interested, it’s due it’s second service and warranty renewal for 2 years which I will have done.

To start with you will be down £10k on dealer spread between buy/sale. Plus annual running/warranty costs etc. Don’t buy unless you want to risk 30k on the experience over a couple of years

Hi Carl.

That’s good to know. What’s the current mileage? Also colour and spec?

Thanks

Massive engine issues are hard to ignore. When the ten year warranty runs out, expect them to depreciate quicker than a Xmas tree in January, even getting close to that warranty period ending will give them a huge hit.

That doesn't seem likely, given you can extend the warranty for a further 5 years beyond that point.

You need to do some research. There were like who knows how many iterations/fixes on that engine. I seen one at OPC ages ago with a worn camshaft. They replaced the camshaft. How is replacing the camshaft a fix if it's a lubrication issue? I did not look into details but looks more like a design issue. Why on earth would Porsche put a 10 year warranty on those cars? What does this tell you?

The reason not so many people see issues is because they don't drive them. You not going to rev up to 9k on the road. That camshaft issue showed up on track at about 8500/9000 rpm in form of a misfire.

Now should you have a engine failure or PDK failure out of warranty how much would that cost? You cannot run a 991.1 without warranty for sure. And taking the bus home from SPA must suck! smile

Wouldn't it? In ten years time, the people buying a ten year old Porsche's might not want the expense of a must have warranty cost.

Last time I looked there were 110 991 GT3's for sale on PH, compare this with 75 GT-R's which have been in production twice as long.

New buyers should expect to take a bath on the cars. I was talking to a Porsche garage owner who knows someone who's had 20 engines!

Isn't the G engine the latest iteration. Not sure which revision of G though...

I’ve been busily saving up for an Atom 4 but now the time has come to put my deposit down I’m wondering if I’d be better off with a GT3 or something else as a fun toy

I’ve been looking and reading about the 991.1 GT3 as this would be affordable for me. The 991.2 is a bit of a stretch currently. As has been mentioned, the engine issue is a worry but given Porsche will give a 10 year warranty and replace the engine if it faulters, this should give some comfort. You can also extend the warranty further (5 yrs I think)

I’m currently sitting by and watching prices.

Thats not true, not all cars are affected, Porsche confirmed this, it was an issue caused by a metallurgy defect to do with inclusions - there are several people on Rennlist aiming to get to 100k on the original engines - currently on around 35,000 miles with no issues at all.

The full details are here:
