992 OPC launch evening
Discussion
I was invited to the launch of the 992 at my OPC last night....Great function, the canapes and prosecco flowed freely.
However, after careful scrutiny, I came to the conclusion that it just doesn't do it for me. I quite like the flared front arches and the new seats, but thats about it. The squared off front trunk lid corners and the Macan style swages just dont look right. Additionally, at the rear, they have done a nice job with the exhaust, but the rear end generally is a step too far. Finally, the interior is also not so great, the seats and cabin generally are great, but the instrument cluster, dash and gear selector...No...and dont mention that cup holder.
In conclusion, I remain very happy with my 991.2 GTS and have no desire to trade it for a 992 :-)

I’m going next week too - I’ll be really interested to see it in the metal : from the images, I think the rear end is a bit bulky & wedge like. I prefer the front / side profile. Not a fan of the inside - too much tech for my liking - all I want is 5 proper dials.
Let’s see, time will tell

Im going monday and will report back.
Just got a 991.2 gts (after r8 v10+) so in similar position now and very pleased with the car.
I'm also going on monday so i'll see you there..I had a 991.2GTS and one of the best all round cars i've ever owned..Probably faster in everyday driving than my 991.2GT3..Just got a 991.2 gts (after r8 v10+) so in similar position now and very pleased with the car.
And yet the reviews are glowing. Which you couldn’t really say when the 991 launched...
I mostly struggle with the styling at the rear. That bum looks ginormous. Compared to my GT3 Touring it just lacks the same finesse.
But I would be keen to drive one to see what all the hype is about...

More great reviews on the UK drive by Autoexpress and Topgear. Seems the wet mode was made specifically for the British weather, how nice of Porsche

Looked at the car tonight (3 of them) in cardiff. 5 good and bad for me...
Bad points:
!: Very similar, as expected, to 991 except centre rear bumper area. Not sure its an improvement at the back. Makes it look too tall looking rear on.
2: Rear wing up is huge and maybe too big. But not as bad in the flesh as it looks in pics
3: Gear knob - doesnt bother me too much but most people didnt like it at all.
4: The fake dial screens in the dash - you can see they are not real and that would bug me a bit, especially at night time when even though the screen surround is black you can see the outline of the screen.
5: Fake exhaust tips in the bumper. Guess everyone is doing it but looks plastic round the rear and this kind of caps it off.
Good bits:
1: Generally the styling is good for most of the car and is a reasonable progression and still a 911
2: 4s has a 0-60 quoted 3.4 second. Thats insane and the gts must be 3.2 i guess. for a standard model that is stupid quick.
3: Very familiar feel inside with what feels like slightly more room.
4: Lot of options now available, 360 cameras, lane assist etc so can really spec up a model to suit your needs.
5: Wide body looks great on every car in there (they had 4 I think).
Summary: Not in a rush to place an order. Think the 992 model actually looks better. Could the styling be a 996 in terms of residuals and popularity? Every so often porsche stray from what makes the 911 so popular. Not sure they have gone too far but its a bit, well, different from what a 911should be in my mind. Its still a 911, but its not a pretty or cute car for me. Maybe it will grow on me and maybe driving it will give a different view on it.

I have to say I was underwhelmed & agree it didn’t feel very 911 like to me - I didn’t think it was an ugly car, but I also didn’t feel like I wanted to rush & order one : the rear is very wedgy - also wasn’t a fan of the brake light under the rear window. The front looks tricky on cols where the black plastic overly contrasts; looks much better on darker colours where it’s more tonal.Bad points:

Looks massive now & flared front arches looked good from the side view but less so from the front.
Inside is a nice place to be, but I wasn’t a fan of the electronic dials.
Maybe a grower - let’s see.
The way the 992 looks is purely subjective personal tastes..However objectively according to 100% of all reviews it is a giant leap over the 991 in all aspects of driving ability..It returns Porsche back to its core driver's car ethos if the reviewers are telling the truth..
Unfortunately due to work commitments i was unable to attend my OPC's 992 launch night..I've got a 992S coming soon and have also got a 992S Cabrio coming in July. I actually prefer the look of the Cabrio in the 992 and since its coming earlier than planned will p/x the coupe for the Cabrio.

Saw it in the flesh tonight and had some high hopes despite some of the reviews.
However, most reviews at least praised the interior quality feel, which bizarrely was the bit I was let down by. The switches felt flimsy and tiny with no satisfying feedback, the hazards for one was hard to judge whether it was on or off unless you were staring at the switch. Add it to dials that are partly obscured by the steering wheel and features you can only access via touch screen, it did worry me a bit. Even the steering mode switch felt cheap and plasticky!
I know that these are very minor things but I do care a lot about the interior, as that's the bit I actually see and interact with. The hardest bit is that my ageing 997 feels better put together in some ways, very subjective but things you touch just feel more solid.
The other 95% of what I noticed with the time I had around the cars is excellent as expected, it's a shame I was so let down by insignificant things.

The comments about the interior are true. I was expecting to be wowed by the interior but wasn't. One review I read said the 992 interior was up there with a Bentley, that's not the first impression I got.
I didn't have long inside the car though as there was a queue of people waiting to jump in.

Hope the driving experience is better than the 3.0lt in 991.2. Ive tried 3 now and have been underwhelmed by the lack of sprit, so much so that I’m looking at a 3.8tl .1 or even a 997 turbo. Edited by David W. on Tuesday 26th March 13:02

I had a 991.2GTS coupe and IMO one of the best all round cars i've owned..Its been a while since reviews were as unilaterally positive on a newly launched car..My guess is that the new 992 platform is a work of pure genius and bodes well for future iterations, such as the full fat Turbo and various GTs.In complete contrast the new Audi R8 has had a pretty scathing review from Autocar, brilliant engine aside.

I am with you on this one, been driving 911s for 40 years, the 991.2GTS is epic, on both road and track. I will be in my 992C2s later today, i will post something up later....
