911 GT3/RS wheel nut paint damage
Discussion
This is a common problem. The 600nm needed to remove/refit wheels seems to be beyond what any paint can stand. Centre locks look great when new but removal of the wheel (and/or aggressive wheel cleaners) can wreck the centre bolts. My ones are, luckily, bare metal so I clean then carefully with steel wool and a dremel. Personally I’d give up trying to keep the paint intact and take them back to the shine of bare metal.
They are anodised and they can get damaged when tightening/loosening the nut. Once they're damaged general cleaning/use will make them deteriorate pretty quickly.
I had mine re-anodised and they came up really well, you'll lose the writing which is a shame but it cost around £120 to get all 4 done on my 997 GTS.

I remember researching quite a few of the wheel cleaners currently on the market and many of them do cause problems on black paint, especially when allowed to dry. I’m guessing you probably did dry yours but excess liquid was flung from out of the centre cap when on the move. This then dried and did the damage.

I used non acidic black frog wheel cleaner. I like the anodised idea. Porsche are looking at it and will let me know. Fingers crossed
Damn, sorry to see that picture. Does the cleaner say what chemicals are in it? Some of the non-acidic cleaners use caustic soda which will dissolve the ali oxide containing the dye.I’ve worried about this happening, so I didn’t take any chances and went for the best wheel cleaner I could find, and made sure it was PH neutral.
Been using this for a year now on a 991.2 GTS with black centre lock wheels.

In fact, all my cleaning products are gyeon, recommended by topaz after I had my ppf done.
