911 turbo S ... what next?
Discussion
For the past 4 i have had the pleasure of using a 911 as my daily (it had 4 seats which was the main driver), I ran a 991.1 GTS and currently have a 991.1 Turbo S which is fantastic for the job...
My circumstances have now changed in that i have bought a 3rd car (we now have a 4x4, my 911 and added a Golf GTE for my daily commute (sub 25 miles) - this opens up a new world of opportunity with regard no longer having the 4 seat requirement...
Ultimately i now have the option of a weekend, occasional dry commute and potential track day car.
I have always wanted to scratch the GT3 itch and have been watching with interest the threads on the 997.1, 997.2 and 991 GT3's.
I don't really want to put in a significant chunk of cash on top of the Turbo S, so am restricted on options - i would pay upto £125k as a guide.
i am not desperate to do anything as i love the TTS, but an opportunity for a new toy is hard to resist (not sure i am ready for the non 911 options.. or am I ??!)
A couple of questions;
- recommendations - keep or change and if change what to look at in that price range or even below and free up some cash (love the 997.1 GT3)
- Private or part ex /SOR on the Turbo S
Thanks in advance

Not sure on your use case for the third car, so these would be my suggestions:
Hope that helps!
- Track days
- Focused / spirited road drives mostly solo
- Spirited touring, with two occupants
- Casual touring, with two occupants
Hope that helps!
Thanks for the replies - i hadn't considered the GT4 or the Spyder - both look like good options...
I think i can narrow the search to GT4, 991 GT3 (assume i need to avoid the 991.1?) and my b
h a 997.1/2 GT3
The GT4 is certainly an interesting proposition - seems a lot of car for the money...

I really wouldn't rule out the 991.1, the issues seem to be coming from intense track work, I figure your use of it won’t have any issues, plus they represent better value in my opinion.
If it’s of any help my best friend has a 997.1 GT3RS a GT4 CS and a 991.1 GT3RS and his thoughts were as follows:
If it’s of any help my best friend has a 997.1 GT3RS a GT4 CS and a 991.1 GT3RS and his thoughts were as follows:
- 997.1 GT3RS – His most raw car, utterly engaging and he will never sell, however he finds it too focused for the road.
- 991.1 GT3RS – Incredibly more capable than the 997, with much more grip in the front end. Felt he lost engagement with it being PDK and found track days much less fun as he was just much faster than other Porsches
- GT4 – His favourite road GT car, he sold it at the end of last year as he believed the new GT4 was coming sooner (he is in at an OPC and will certainly get an allocation). He has regretted it ever since and is desperate for his new one. When he gets it he will go down to GT4 only.

Think about it......lots of reasons not too, but worth a consideration Ultimately i now have the option of a weekend, occasional dry commute and potential track day car.

Was trying to avoid making an already complicated decision ... even more complicated ... which you successfully have !!
Your welcome
PS I'm pondering a TTS (need to do the odd business trip)....but they are all either silly money, odd spec or have red leather ...so private sale !
I popped into my local OPC to see what kind of deal I could get on a red 18’ GT3 they have.
The end result was..
Win for the OPC
Win for the original owner
Huge loss for me in part ex price
Frankly they took the piss and I’m not desperate to part with my 991.1TTS for the sake of lining flippers & SE’s pockets.
To be fair the flipper wasn’t really a flipper 18’ plate and 12k miles. Good going really

I would seriously consider a 991.1 GT3 for your budget, especially as they all have a 60k mile/ 10 year engine warranty - which will last at least until 2023, if not longer.
Coming from a TS - I think you would appreciate the visceral experience as a comparison - it won't have the extreme torque and effortless performance, but the PDK-S is much better than the PDK on the TS and the sound is just something to die for - in my opinion, better sounding than the older Mezger engines, at the top of the rev range - which goes up to 9krpm of course.
I would recommend to take one out for a test drive, make sure you use the paddles and don't leave in auto and don't engage sports mode for the PDK as it's not needed. Try not to get 3 points for speeding (as I did on my very first .1GT3 test drive, lol), but even if you do, and you then buy that car (as I did), you will realise it was worth it.
To add - an aftermarket back box such as Sharkwerks, will also make it much more fun.

Not a bad conclusion. I cannot speak to the GT4 but I still own a 7.1RS and a 991RS and have owned a 7.2RS. If it’s of any help my best friend has a 997.1 GT3RS a GT4 CS and a 991.1 GT3RS and his thoughts were as follows:

The 7.1RS is the last prod Porsche with no stability control. It is tricky in the wet and at high autobahn speeds it lifts ( as I found out). Happens at about 300 km/H
The 7.2 is a brilliant driver and has much better grip at high speed and is a bit less raw. Great car.
The 991RS can be driven as a regular Porsche at road speeds and is very civilized. On track it is astonishingly capable. Especially is it is wet. Vastly superior to the 997. Less engaging at road speeds but I love it on a track.
I assume they are all slower than your existing car. If you intend to do a lot of track then a 7.2 is the most fun. For mainly road I would go 991.

Thanks all ... looks like it is worth having a try in a 991.1 GT3 and the GT4 ...
Is there any absolute must have in spec (or must not!) ?
Depends on your own tastes mate.Is there any absolute must have in spec (or must not!) ?
Bucket seats or comfort seats? More track or more road?
Clubsport or not?
PCCBs for no brake dust and in my opinion better track performance, or steels which are cheaper
Of course the colour is a key decision - a lot of choice from standard colours, but a few PTS colour cars possibly available too - which may be more desireable. As for mileage, I wouldn’t worry too much, nor would I worry if it had a lot of owners - lots of cars changed hands for an additional £10k a time within the first 18 months - my first car in 2015 was 12 months old and had 4 owners and less than 2500 miles - lol.
Good call on the 991.1 GT3. Have a look at this from 40 secs in, oh and turn the speakers up.

I ran a 991GT3 side by side with 991 Turbos for 4 years, they are both great cars at what they do, but go about things in very different ways. Knowing what to have next after 4 years of Turbo S, was a hard choice. I needed something fast, but not so fast it was going to get me more points, needed to be fun to drive, lots of TQ for road use, PDK, good Nav and Phone etc. It was quite by accident that i ended up with a 991.2 Targa 4GTS, went on to have 2 and did close to 30k Epic miles thought it was a great fun car as a Daily, even more so over the summer months. But not in the same conversation as a 991.1GT3 as an event to drive.
