Thought I was all set to pick up my ideal spec 911 from an OPC in the coming days but turns out an aftermarket modification means they are unable to sell it to me.

You're really not having much luck are you? frown

What on earth were the modifications that they weren't able to undo in order to prep it for sale? Tyres? Exhaust? Sports Cats? Manifolds?

Given that I’m on the rebound now, does anyone have a well looked after, high spec PDK 991.1 CS or 4S that they’re looking to sell?
Odd. What was the mod?

My OPC only decided the couldn’t retail my 997 turbo Cab on trade in day as they hadn’t noticed it had 2 indie services. They only retail with a maximum of 1 Indie service. Still went through with the deal as I hadn’t concealed the info. Picked up my GTS as planned.

So they will be passing the car to the trade instead of retailing it directly themselves - so still an opportunity to buy it if you're keen and it's the right spec for you.

But curious to know what the issue is that is causing them to pass it on.

I am surprised there is anything to solder to. I've never seen one, but I imagine them to be a black box with plug holes.

I’d imagine they will pass it on to another dealer in the group....if it’s Sytner, Rybrook etc they have Sytner Select or similar that they can sell cars like this through. Ask your SE to find out for you!

The day after I traded in my X5 against my Cayenne I saw a post on PH of someone who’d just had his X5 nicked....turned out my car was the almost perfect replacement spec and price wise. He spoke the Business Manager at my Sytner OPC, they couldn’t sell him the car but a Sytner Group Lexus dealer could....so my X5 was transferred to them and he bought it from them. Everyone was a winner.

There are two types of aftermarket rear view cameras one can fit on the rear of Porsches..The best type is exactly the same as OE Porsche camera but requires a small hole drilled above the rear plate to facilitate running a wire directly to the PCM.
The second type is basically sticking the rear camera above the rear plate with two way sticky pads and no wires or hole needs to be drilled.
If the first method is employed then it will fail the 111 point test as it can't be returned to OEM spec due to the hole..If the second sticky type is used then its a simple matter of ripping off the rear camera, returning the car to OE spec allowing it to pass the mandatory 111 point test.

If you really want it there are ways and avenues to explore. The OPC is following its own in house and probably Porsche`s rules so cannot be blamed other than not noticing it earlier. They probably only put it through the 111 check once your deposit was paid on it.

Interesting. I thought that the typical aftermarket reversing camera kits for PCM 3.1 were based on a plug-in board that mounts inside the PCM itself (so could be removed if necessary), so I'm struggling to understand where the soldering can have been. And even 'soldering' can be reversed, of course. Still - first rule of doing anything to your Porsche if you want to maintain warranty (or take out or renew an extended warranty) with them is to make anything that you add reversible, or removable.

It's all nonsense in my mind as there is clear variability between OPCs (and probably between different days of the week within the same OPC) and Porsche themselves do allow some fairly permanent mods without questioning it; PPF for one... Yes, I know, but it's the principle that doesn't seem to be counted on a consistent basis!

Such a shame. Based on your post in my 991.1 C2S buying thread - you must feel jinxed? rolleyes

Still Neil's car seems like a rather nice example and gets you most of the OPC benefits - without buying from an OPC ....
