Weird fault- 977.1 C2 S! Help!
Discussion
Hi all,
I love the new to me 997.1, 2006, C2S.
But it has developed a unusual fault! In the last 3 months, on three occasions I have accidentally hit the Rev limiter as I go up the gears, from second to third. It’s only for a split second as I push clutch in a bit to early!
After each time- the car will not idle.
Drives fine, pulls through all the gears, but as you pull up to a stop- the engine cuts out.
It always re-starts, just will not idle.
When cold, the fault disappears. Unplug the MAF, fault disappears.
So the quick and easy thing to do is replace the MAF, which I have now done three times. It stops the fault, but I want to know.... why does the car do this? Will a re-map cure this as it does seem to be electrical?
It feels like the car is telling me off every time I spank it!

Hi Delboy,
My 997 C2S started doing this - although not as a result of hitting the limiter - it just idled roughly when hot and then cut out. Ken at 9e plugged it into his diagnostics and it came up with 3 error codes - two sensors and a solenoid. In essence the MAF sensor, coolant temperature sensor and the solenoid in the inlet tract that provides the varioram weren't working!
So in essence it thought it was stone cold, it defaulted to a limp home map as it couldn't tell airflow or air temperature and the varioram was shut in closed mode. I can tell you that it simply flew home ......
I have also heard of Lambda probes doing something similar to what you describe, but get it on the diagnostics of a pro Indie ASAP!

Hi and thanks for the info!
I will book it in at the local indy (Autowerke) tomorrow- also where I purchased the car from! Top notch guys, very helpful if you are in Norwich/Norfolk area.
I guessed the fault was electrical, I have a sneaky feeling that the Euro Cup intake/throttle/plenum is adding to the problem.
Thanks again
