Hi

It's time to change the tyres on my 991.2 GTS.

They are currently on Pirelli P Zero's, has anybody changed to Michelin PS4S. What are the pros and cons?

Many thanks

I'd definitely go p4s. the technology in the tyre is more modern. I put a set on my 997 rs 4.0 as I couldn't get cup 2's in the size I needed and think they are pretty impressive as a road tyre, especially in damp conditions.

Not decrying the PS4, but surely the N1 P Zero is also ‘latest tech’ as well?

I believe the compound tech in the ps4 is newer. the p zero is as old as the Michelin cup 2's which is quite a few years now.

Well it may be but the Michelin is undeniably a better tyre - last longer too

I had a 991.2 C2 GTS, and then a 991.2 Carrera T manual.

The GTS was on P-Zeros, and the Carrera T was on PS4S.

I preferred the Michelins. Better feel and comfort in both wet and dry conditions.

Made the change on my 981 CS. There is no downside to the switch.

You could change both on that axle to PS4 and then in due course change both on the other axle. Mixing on different axles is fine-especially for a limited period

Has anybody tried the new P Zeros - with the different tread pattern and compound? I'm hoping to get a set on Friday and I gather they're much better than the old ones ....

Just had some rears put on mine, fronts are fine, and preferred to have same overall ‘type’ across the axles. Seem absolutely fine so far, plenty of grip out the box.

Tried them on the R8 for a year - they came standard on 20 wheels with the quattro RO1 homologation. I thought they were a pretty good all round tyre - fairly comfortable, good wet and dry grip. They didn't do so well on the track but that was Spa with 80C tyre temperatures. Only changed them for Cup2s after damaging my two left PZs on a large hole.

This PZero has PZ4 on the sidewall. I think the 305/30-30 N1 is still the old design with an updated compound. I dont think the PZ4 has been homologated in the 911 20" sizes though I've seen them on a Cayman about two years ago. I really find it disappointing that Porsche continued to fit the old PZs when there was a newer, and by all accounts, better PZ4.

Night and day. My 997 turbo came with a brand new set of P-Zeros on it. They lasted 14,000 miles. I replaced them with MPS4S`s and the difference, even before id scrubbed them in was staggering. Ive now done 20,000 miles in them and they are still only half worn. Amazing tyres.

PZeros have buggered up the feel of every car I’ve ever driven - Michelin Pilots whether 3 or 4’s are night and day better in whatever weather condition
