Just sold my 997.2 C2 PDK and my Golf R lease ends late summer. I'm considering either an early C2S 991.1 (with PDK + PASM) or an early C2 991.2 (PDK) as a daily driver.

Engine (sound, power/torque delivery, etc) aside, is there that much difference in terms of the actual driving experience (steering and handling in particular)? My driving is a combination of country-side lanes and A/B roads.

Taking a three year / 24K mile view which will in theory cost less?

991.1 lower initial cost (£55K), but older so higher servicing costs (likely into replacing suspension parts etc)
991.2 hight initlal cost (£75-80K), but likely less servicing. Always going to be the "Gen 2" car.

Either would be sourced from OPC.

Thoughts please.

Can’t compare with a 991.1 but I can vouch for the 991.2 as a daily driver. Specced mine with the 18 ways, LEDs, PSE and kept the 19inch alloys. The ride is simply amazing for a car of this type. Two hour cross country blast and arrive fresh as a daisy. C2 narrow body suits UK B roads. More than quick enough to imho.

The big difference I would say is that the 991.2 can be specced with RWS....most people that have driven cars with it really like it and it is of course standard on the GT3. I’d also say that despite the negative of the turbo engine most people prefer the ,2....I was amazed when the .2 GTS came out....it seemed like every single person on here raved about it compared to the .1 !

Also ( and I know this shouldn’t count on a 911 but for me it would on a daily driver) the .2 has Apple Car Play which for me is miles better than the standard PCM.

I was in a similar situation 6 months ago...couldn't make up my mind between .1 or .2 ...test drove both and although the .2 was faster ( and newer) I opted for the .1s. Bought an immaculate example at my local OPC. Foremost reason was it was the last 911 with a NA engine and being a young 69 I had plenty of time to get a turbo charged car when "forced' to. The gen 2 was probably a slightly better every day car due to the extra low down torque but the NA engine isn't short of grunt and 3.8 loves to rev. As a minor aside this engine managed 39 mpg! on a long 50 mph contra flow and averages out at an amazing 25 mpg and I'm far from light footed. As far as residuals ..... every ( normal ) car depreciates so you takes your choice ...both great everyday cars in my experience...best to test drive both and then make your own choice. Good luck .

I bought a 991.1 c2 gts when new. Then bought a 991.2 c2 gts when they were new. I ran the 2 cars side by side for a short while. Then sold the .2 and kept the .1 I still have the .1 now, 4 years and 45k miles in. The engine is a big part of the appeal of the .1 but it is also a chunk lighter than the .2 and the extra weight of the .2 was all at the back. I have corner weights at home. The .2 felt heavier to drive. The .2 sat slightly higher and yet rode firmer. I suspect the springs are firmer on the .2, to hold up the extra weight.

Had a .1GTS sold it and bought a .2GTS. .2 was probably the best Porsche I have owned and I still regret selling it 4 cars later.

You sold it though didn't you, so it can't have been that great ! I too have had cars since , and have sold them all and still have my .1 I guess we all like different things so the OP really needs to get a few drives in each.

The torque of the .2 will work really well for the short distances between corners, imagining the country lanes etc you're talking about. You can keep the PASM in soft and concentrate on steering and braking. On longer stretches you may prefer the delivery of a .1, but it's not everything. I think the 991.1 saved about 50kg over the 997.2, which has been put back on again with the 991.2. I doubt you'd notice it on the road, certainly not as much as having a 100kg+ passenger bashing into your elbows!

Depends on driving style and how much you value the "noise" when you extend it over 5,000rpm - when I can tell you that the 991.1 C2S sounds glorious. At low revs you get a burble / gurgle, in the mid range it's all proper howl and at the top end it shrieks. Then you change up a gear and get it all again .....

For me the 991.2 Carrera is an awesome weapon, undervalued and overlooked by buyers wanting the "S" but it's still quick! Yes the 992 makes it feel old and the 991.1 is a choice to reject the turbos and stick with the last of the naturally aspirated Porsches. Many are doing this for the purity of throttle response and the sound they make, so it's certainly made prices more buoyant in April, but there are no guarantees that prices will stay firm even with low miles, high spec and amazing condition .....

Yes I know what you mean about the wheels - but if it has to be manual and "goldilocks" spec - I hope you're speaking to the likes of 991V or JZM to track one down for you. Otherwise it's going to be difficult and quite frustrating ..... tumbleweed

I had a 991.2GT3 incoming and at the time felt having two 911's plus a Macan Turbo PP was excessive. I've now learnt from that experience that I now won't sell any car until I'm convinced the replacement is the car I want to keep.

You are right, that we all like different things and as you, I'd urge the OP to get out and drive the .1 and .2 cos they are quite different beasts.

Yup, totally agree but I’m in no rush. It’s a weekend car so I can wait a while.
Wheels, PASM, exhaust and probably sport chronic are the must haves
