i'm off to look at a 997 Gen 2 C4S at a OPC tomorrow

i'm happy that the car will come with the porsche warranty and will have been serviced by them before they sell it. all good there

what options am i missing that are must haves? So far i can see the car doesn't have PSE and doesn't have the flappy paddles. Seems to have everything else thats needed though?

spec is

PDK
Sport Chrono
Bose
Park Assist
Sport Design wheels

Anything in particular i should look out for when taking it out on a test drive? Will be my first porsche so a bit green to all this!

Heated seats
Multi function steering wheel (if not paddles)

Try and get them to upgrade to the Sport Design steering wheel with the flappy paddles as part of the deal...if you like it! They can also retrofit Cruise Control if that’s something you want it.

I would never consider heated seats a must have option in any car other than a soft top and even then it wouldn't be a deal breaker. PSE however is in my opinion a must have option especially if you are buying from an OPC as to make the car sound better you only have two options.

1. Retrofit PSE which is very expensive
2. Fit an aftermarket system and void the warranty.

I would also be wary of getting a car with 4wd as it tends to numb the steering and really isn't necessary as the 2wd car has soooooo much grip. My first Porsche was 993 C4S and it was such an underwhelming experience I stayed away from the brand for over 10 years.

Heated seats, cold leather on a frosty morning. Don't understand why people spec leather seats and no heating?

Definitely needs PSE as it is very quiet without it.

I would also check when the next service is due, I spent £50k on the car and was back for a service within 3 months plus a couple rear tyres for £1800, not very impressed all things considered.

Anyway well done for navigating the 'new, improved' website that everyone hates.

And don't buy the first one you test drive, very easy to do..

A lot of dealers have IIRC a 'conversation bay' where you can get the car up on a lift for a good poke about underneath, worth taking advantage if available. The OPC I bought mine from left the car on there, high up so I could see it from where I was sitting, they didn't quite put a sign up there saying 'buy me, you know you want to' but you get the idea.

An OPC is a financially dangerous place :-)

Lastly request a read out of the engine over-revs recorded even though pdk's aren't supposed to allow it to happen along with full service history and body corrosion checks.

I made the mistake of taking out the 997 and then a 991.1 straight after

991.1 won the day....

Managed to get out of the dealership without buying anything but will be back very soon I’m sure

Would the lack of PSE, cruise and sport Chrono be a big issue come resale in a couple of years?

Close shave then..

PSE does seem to be a must have as retro-fit is expensive, sport chrono and cruise can be retrofitted, in a 997 I don't believe the clock can be retro-fitted but you will get the sport functionality.

Personally I like the 997 over the 991.
