Centrelocks & tyre change
Discussion
Hi All
Had a quote to change my current tyres on a 911 to cup2’s circa £1500
I’ve had a quick look at black circles which are a little over £1100 so £400 difference if I use a black circles recommend garage but I’m not sure they are able to do centre-locks
The other concern is taking care during wheel removal because of the PCCB discs
Any of you lot got any advice, recommendations, recently had similar tyres change, etc...
Cheers

You could call the Blacktyres suggested fitting centre and ask them if they have the socket and gear for the centre locks, also mention the ceramic rotors. Or call Blacktyre and tell them you need a tyre shop who can take care of high end vehicles and pay them a visit. £400 is too much to walk away from.
I purchased a set of 20" Cup2 for the R8 last June from Camskill for £1118 including shipping to Northern Ireland. Had them fitted at a quality wheel refurbishment centre who took care of them. Friend also had his 991 GT3 tyres fitted there.
Cup2 is a good choice; I'm well happy.

Wolverhampton OPC price matched to Black Circles for me a few weeks back. For the sake of a few miles, id go there.
Theres no way id let anybody other than a specialist or OPC remove the wheels, especially with PCCB!! Normal garages dont have th equipment.
The wheel nut comes with the car, so thats easy. The garage will need a really big torque wrench which many wont have, its fairly specialist kit and they will mostly be using small stuff and/or a rattle gun. They also need an alignment tool which makes it easier to take off and on the wheel so it doesnt ding the brake disc. If you ding a ceramic disc, your looking at probably 3k easily to replace. Its not worth the hassle.

Interesting. OPC Silverstone send the cars with the more expensive rims just down the road to Towcester tyres for fitting. They wouldn't let their own techs work on the magnesiums on my GT2 RS.Theres no way id let anybody other than a specialist or OPC remove the wheels, especially with PCCB!! I think the tool should be under the bonnet. My 996 (albeit not with ceramics) had a threaded bar that you put through the wheel and you slid the whole wheel along. Was quite useful.Theres no way id let anybody other than a specialist or OPC remove the wheels, especially with PCCB!! Normal garages dont have th equipment.
