I have owned my 996 GT3RS since new. In the last few years its use has been very low and it has started to weep a small amount of oil. I suspect the RMS.

I want to get it repaired. Any thoughts on likely costs either with OPC (I use Hatfield) or independent (say JZ Machtech)?

I had similar issue with mine, very minor weep, but decided to get it sorted anyway. Full Engine out job and also got them to change all water hoses, seals, belts, full fluids service, new gearbox mount etc, from memory I think I was around £4.5k at OPC prices.

Sounds like RMS. had that on my one too. Stopped when the car was used. Replace the seal when changing the clutch

Weeps more likely on cars which spend more time stored up (eg over winter) than regularly used.

However I’ve heard two schools of thought on this from specialists:
1. Needs replacing once weeping/dripping
2. Needs a good long drive to seal up again (eg road trip)

I remember mine would have a slight weeping after the winter hibernation. A good long drive would usually sort it. Much cheaper than spending £5k at the OPC or specialist imo. Worth keeping an eye on though. Obviously if it persists you have little choice

Mines weeped since I bought it. Two spots on garage floor in 18 months. Only reason I’m having it done is because clutch needs doing.

Its a £40 seal from porsche,if they are changing your clutch, its no more than a hour to remove flywheel and change seal, good idea to also put new flywheels bolts in.

option 2 above. I've had mine from new as well and i only ever get an issue if its left in the garage and not driven for a while. There is then a teaspoon sized drop of oil on garage floor. Parr do most of the work on the car for me and they have said use resolves it, so as long as the puddle of oil is quite small I wouldn't worry too much about it.

my 996 GT3RS had a similar small oil weep I too suspected one of the main seals but it turned out to be a fairly innocuous seal for one of the ancillary drives found and fixed by OPC Tonbridge for £400.....I'm proud of the lads down at OPC Tonbridge they didn't mug me for an Engine out RMS IMS replacement I' sure they could've done.....they showed me exactly what the issue was as they powdered all the exit points from the casing to show up the culprit then took me under the car to show me.....spot on lads.....this is why I always use them and have done for many years

My 996RS has had it done twice since new. No more than a £500 job.
