Anyone got any experience of whether you can easily and safely fit a baby seat in a 996?

Quick check of the Maxi Cosi site suggests no ISOFIX option, but can be installed with a seatbelt (rear and front).

Would it be extremely difficult in the back anyway (not sure how far forward the seats fold)? The Cabriolet appeals in this regard as it might be a lot easier logistically.

TIA smile

Yes, a Maxi-cosi pebble fits in the back. BUT, your wife will need to be a double amputee to fit in the front, as the seat needs to go right forward (if you're driving). (Or you, if she drives, of course)

For this reason, I'm having to make the somewhat gutting decision of selling my '98 C2 as I'm six weeks away from my first being born..

I had my son in a Maxi Cosi Tobi (behind passenger seat) and my daughter in a backed booster behind me. It was pretty tight though, I'm only average height but I had the seat all the way back and her legs were touching my seat. Unfortunately practicality and the Mrs won out so I had to sell mine and get a more practical car (e92 m3). Still regret the change though, that was a 996 turbo so the same as a carrera I'd be wary of a cab as it might be easier with roof down, but the seats are more vertical in the back so there might be less room. When they were younger, the rear facing seat was being the passenger, just with the passenger seat all the way forward. We were lucky in that as my wife had 9 months off, we didn't use my car much for kids so by the time I did I could just lift them in the seat rather than taking the seat out each time. Oh and the seat backs and bases can be easily removed for a couple more inches space.

This usually the case. Its not just getting the kids in and out of the car that's the problem its all the other stuff that you drag around with your when they are infants. I had a seat in the back of my 993 when my daughter was 1-2 years old but we never used it as a family it was only when my wife was out in our other car (Nissan Navara) that she went in it.

One of those was on my short list as alternatives, potentially in convertible form as well smile

They aren't infants for long. We had space issues in the wife's M135i so I just turned round the rear facing seat and drove carefully. Front facing there's loads of room, so she went behind me. Before you know it she's front facing anyway and she never complained once.

I tried this when wife was pregnant. We went to Mothercare in my 997 and it was just not feasible. Also putting the carrier in and out would be a right pain, especially if wife has c section as it involves a lot of twisting. Easy to scratch the interior. Then you have totally inadequate storage for all the stuff- doubt a travel cot would fit.

Just buy something else to run alongside or get something more practical

Doubt a 996 is brilliant in an accident too for a baby seat? You wouldn’t want that on you if something happened. Fine if it’s just you in the car.

We had a Maserati Granturismo for a few years. Much more space and a real event to drive. Or there’s always the M3 or even better an RS4 avant they are cheap and proper drivers car

Remove the seat back of rear seats, it gets you an extra 2"
