Hi all,

I'm about to pull the trigger on a MY12 997.2 turbo and all look and feel right except it vibrates a bit at idle. Car has 41k miles on it, and no warning lights whatsoever. The rpm needle is stable and it's just rough feeling that I feel through the seat mostly. Once moving the car is completely smooth, I don't feel any harshness associated with the drivetrain. In the last couple of years I've been used to driving my Lexus ISF which is obviously buttery smooth at all times, and am new to 997 turbo ownership so I understand this could be just me. There have only been a very few reports of 997.2 cars affected by bore scoring but I'm just being careful here thinking it may be a symptom of that problem. Any advice from turbo owners who've been there and done that with it on whether it's normal will be of great help, thanks.

Bore scoring in 997.2 relates to a different engine (and much rarer problem than in 997.1). The 997.2 turbo engine is very reliable. Can't comment on vibration though - something you have to feel not read wink

This is completely normal level of NVH in any 997 turbo. They all do it but to be on safe side maybe purchase from an OPC or respected Indy like 911V or JZM. Nice thing about OPC cars in particular is you get a two year warranty on their used car and it would be worth its weight in gold on an old turbo smile

Had a 997.1 turbo

That famous Mezger lump was built to race GT1 for 24 hours at maximum revs - its tough as old boots but rough as a badgers arse which is all part of the "charm"
