991.1 GT3 RS or 991.2 GT3 Manual
Discussion
Hi I am currently looking at two cars and can’t decide what car to buy.
The cars are 991.1 GT3 RS with PDK and 500bhp and the other is 991.2 GT3 with Manual and 500 BHP and £155k each.
I like the idea of the manual gearbox. However I like the fact the other is an RS and maybe they are too fast for a Manual gearbox and are better suited to PDK.
I think they will retain value because of rare Manual and rare RS.
Any owner tell me other differences?

I think it depends how you’re going to use the car...manual 991.2 GT3 is a brilliant car and great fun on track despite being a manual. The PDK mantra is that lap times are faster but lets face it you’re not racing and I reckon there’s more satisfaction to be had nailing a lap with a manual car than there is in a PDK car even if it’s a second slower. At slower road speeds I think a manual car is way more involving.
From a driving viewpoint it is not a better/worse scenario it is purely subjective ,I never thought I would ever buy a non manual sports car but I did and I love it to the degree that I’m not sure I would go back to manual .
As for values and rarity the gen 2 manuals are not rare, and the next gt3 will have a manual option.
The rs is a better investment in terms of depreciAtion.

At slower road speeds I find the PDK more involving, horses for courses!I find with the PDK at lower speeds I’m constantly flicking up and down gears and short shifting for little reason other than I can and it sounds great,in a manual it would probably be a 2nd and 3rd gear only scenario

This really is subjective, and owners of the RS will defend their corner as will owners of 991.2 GT3. I owned both cars simultaneously for about 6 months through the summer. In my RS I did 4k miles including 2 days at the Ring, a day at Spa and couple of trips to Silverstone, plus a few UK road trips.
The RS is hands down faster round a circuit then the GT3. It turns in better and carries speed in a way the GT3 can't live with.
That said, I think the GT3 is the better all rounder as a road car that you can still have fun with on circuit. After 4k miles back to back in them both over a summer it was the RS I let go of.
You really need to drive both and be honest with yourself as to how you are going to use it. It also depends what other toys you have in the garage. Either way its one of the best first world problems to have

How many 991.1 GT3 RS’s were made and how many so far 991.2 GT3 have been made?
Something like 320 991.1 GT3 RS’s in the UK....it’s about 600 for the GT3 (no more being made). The thing with the GT3 is that it’s obviously quite spec sensitive so...Touring
Manual CS
Manual Comfort
PDK CS
PDK Comfort
If you are buying the most expensive cars will have CS, PCCB’s, Lift, 918 Buckets, LED lights and will have been £130k plus new.
I’d guess there are probably 150 full spec PDK/Manual cars and something like 60 to 80 Tourings.

on the 5 tracks which both have been timed the standard GT3 is faster on 4 and by quite a bit. :-)The RS has the looks though, but it's slower if anything.
I've always been a manual fan and daily-ed my manual GT3 for just over a year, 7500 miles, trip to the IOM and several track days - it was an amazing car no doubt. However as my normal ownership tolerance period approached, I started to wonder how PDK would be.......
It all boils down to the planned use for the car and current preference, best ideal may be to drive both and decide after that?
Best of luck.....
You need to drive them both and figure out for yourself which you prefer - they are both fantastic cars and you wouldn't be disappointed with either - but it is a very subjective thing as to which is best - hence only you can decide.
But I wouldn't wait too long on the RS as £155k is a very good price and don't think it will be long before it is snapped up.

I will get a test drive. I owned many manuals before including, 996 GT3, 996 Turbo, DB9 and NSX Manual. Basically I only bought manuals. My current car is a 12c with duel clutch. There are times I love the automatic mode and the MCLaren is so fast the paddles are better suited.
First world problems.
First world problems.

If that’s your buying criteria so be it, I think most will follow Terry’s very logical suggestions.

The fastest times are normally posted by pretty good well know drivers all told, so that’s all we can go on really, most logged times are done by Christian Gebhardt, Randy Pobst and the likes. there is no doubt the 991.2 engine is stronger every where over the 991.1 lump but as you say in real terms the few 10th don’t really matter, it,s if you want a manual or PDK really and you cannot buy a Modern RS with a manual, so no choice if that's what you want.
The 991.2 RS really moved the track times on over the 991.1 RS, the ring time Keven Ester posted is a marvel to watch posting that 6.56 time from a NA car. Even if the R spec tyres are worth 8 or so seconds of that it’s mindblowing what these cars are doing now.
But the 991.1 RS has the looks in spades, I think they are mega machines, but on a personal level I love my manual car for interaction, something catchpole can put into words far better them myself hence I just posted a link to his vid and nothing more.
They are all mega machines and an RS will always be an RS, it's just porsche moved the game on with the 991.2 GT3 to match or better the 991.1 RS and both are the same price give or take a few £ so it's it down to personal choice all told no right or wrong which you choose,
I thing AP stated it’s one of the most expensive engines ever in the 991.2 car for a production car. CGt of course being another engine marvel.
When you watch the RSR down the main straight at Le Mans and then think in our roads cars we have an engine like that in a production car, it makes the hairs on your neck stand up every 8.9k flat shift.

The beauty is there is such a broad choice and not one bad one.
I am the worlds biggest manual advocate, but despite that the PDK trans is fabulous and offers an intense, if different driving experience.
In the RS I’d have the PDK (no choice anyway) but in the GT3 the manual.
I’m glad you mention the GT motor, it’s really quite something , a total marvel and something to behold.
As I said yesterday, at the next track day you are welcome to sample it from the passenger seat.

I agree just glad porsche gave back the Choice, no other brand offers manual now which is sad times. I am the worlds biggest manual advocate, but despite that the PDK trans is fabulous and offers an intense, if different driving experience.
