Buying a re-sprayed car
Discussion
Would you buy a late model 991 that had been professionally colour changed? The work was done by an OPC approved bodyshop, in an official Porsche colour. No previous damage to the vehicle (documented and photographed). Just done because the owner didnt like the original colour.
Obvious assumption is that, as the potential buyer, you like the new colour and could not easily find an original car in that colour.
Would you expect to pay less than book money? - Discuss..

Hi, Unless it had been re-sprayed a really unusual, rare colour like riviera blue or viper/mint green etc, I wouldn't touch it unless it was massively discounted. Out of interest, what colour is it ? Seems slightly weird that he bought the car if it was the wrong colour.Obvious assumption is that, as the potential buyer, you like the new colour and could not easily find an original car in that colour.

Let us assume it is now Lizard Green and was originally white.
If it was any very rare 'Porsche' colour that I really liked, I would consider it, but I would have to be convinced that it had been done to the very highest standard incl. all the bits you can't usually see; even then, I would attempt to get some sort of discount and take it from there. I love the Lizard Green by the way.Good luck.
Most people might think a Porsche factory paint job is the best you can get. I've no idea if there's anyone who could do better but I suspect there is. But you'll never know how well it's been done.
You may want to pay the usual or more for the unique colour, in which case you're the representative sample of buyers perhaps.
But there may be many future buyers who'd run a mile or expect a discount.
I'd be in the latter camp but it's hard to negotiate a discount when you're slobbering all over the colour at the same time. "Oh well, if you insist, I'll have the horrible green colour as there's no others I can buy, but I want £10,000 off the price to take if off your hands!"

Hi, I have been involved in colour changes on many new Porsche’s from GT2 RS to Carrera GT. if it’s changed to a rare or unusual colour it not only increases its appeal and interest but usually the value. If you like it buy it don’t be put off by scare mongers. If it was a good OPC repaint then happy days 👍

I’m not sure a colour change does “add value” on a standard model as even though it might be in a rare colour the proof is in whether an OPC would hypothetically buy it & would they offer more/less than the original colour? The OP has certainly posted a good question.I think it will stigmatise the car for many people.
Whilst a 'colour-change' re-spray can look very good, surely there's always some evidence that it's been done, without having stripped the car back to its bare essentials? Even then, you have a car that has lost the originality of Factory paint and assembly.
Although, with the Carrera GT, is it not the case that all the coloured panels can be more easily removed from the chassis?

It’s about time someone changed the colour of some of the white 911s in dealer stock!
There are some nicely spec’d cars around but all in white FFS, is it a cheap colour for dealers to buy for stock? serious question.
If you don’t like black or white there’s not a great choice on the S/H lists.
Not sure a wrap ever looks as good as paint either.
