Oulton is probably the most technical tracks in he country and i strongly recommend using a good instructor from the start..I did Oulton last March in the RS day for the first time and it was very daunting first time due to the nature of the track and mixing with others who were very experienced and knew the track well..
I advice doing other tracks first which are flat, wide and very well sighted such as Silverstone which feels extremely safe and confidence inspiring compared to Oulton.Oulton is narrow in places with no runoff and follows undulating ground which makes it very difficult for a novice to get the correct lines..There are blind bends, dips and crests which make it awkward to get the lines right but very challenging and satisfying once you master it.
I'm going back next year with more experience and knowing what to expect before hand..Its a huge favourite with seasoned track guys but not a novice's track IMHO.

What he said!

I’m racing there in two weeks and for me it’s the trickiest circuit on the Calendar.

Get instruction. And enjoy. Very, very unlikely you’ll be be hit by someone on a trackday ime.

Cheers. It was more the convenience with it being up the road from me and on a weekend. Was thinking of doing the novice or taster session for more of a spirited drive akin to to a country road withouht the fear of someone coming the opposite way round the bend. The PCGB days seem to be all booked up..

Just do it. Definitely get tuition as you'll enjoy the day so much more but just drive within your limits. Oulton is a great circuit and certainly challenging to drive quickly, but at the end of the day it's just a bit of tarmac and you're in control of direction and speed!

Oulton Park is a brilliant track, possibly the best we've done in the UK.

Just to note, this event is 6 x 20 minute sessions, which I've done before and found rather frustrating.

Open pit day would be way better, however with such a mix of track day experience I suppose it makes sense to separate the drivers into different groups.

PCGB is the best way to start as there are always many starters on the days and there as very non "racy" atmosphere .The one not to do is RMA , with many GT3 and LMP race cars along with all the ego .
So Any of the PCGB days

I put my brother in my car for his second ever track day and only after driving my car for 20 mins previously on an RMA day at Silverstone. He is a complete novice. Even with my car having poor visibility from the tiny mirrors he either got out of the way or stayed on line and let the faster cars drivers find a way past.

OP don't be afraid of going on track, it can be daunting but there's nothing to it. RMA and BookaTrack have higher pace cars, but also lower numbers than some vendors. Nothing wrong or a miss being on track with faster cars. Get yourself some tuition so you can start learning the circuit from the get go and just go out and have some fun.

There really isn't much more too it, don't over think it.
