Hi Folks,

My 992 C2S arrives in December. I want to fit winter tyres, preferrably Michelin Alpins.

The OPC sent me this quote which seems somewhat toppy to me, so of course I will shop about:

Front Tyres Michelin 245/35/ZR20 Alpine NA0. £457.27 each plus Vat.
Rear Tyres Michelin 295/30/ZR21 Alpine NA0 £492.62 each plus Vat.
Total Vat inclusive cost of tyre set £2279.84.

I need to check on sizes though. There is a 305 rear tyre (Alpin 5) on the Michelin website, but their rep told me the Alpin 5 is not available and they don't know when it will be. Are people with winter going for the 295? Obviosuly a slightly narrower tyre will be better in snow.

The other thing is N rating. Is "NA0" a form of N rating? Perhaps for winter tyres?

On the Michelin website they list the Alpin PA4 and also the Alpin 5.
Rears:
The Alpin 5 is listed in 305/30-21 NA5 and is not available.
The Alpin PA4 is listed in 295/30-21 NA0 and it is available.
Fronts:
The Alpin 5 is listed in 245/35-20 in both NA0 (available) and N5 (not available).
The Alpin PA4 is listed in 245/35-20 N1 and it is available. I don't know why it isn't showing as NA0 rather than N1.

So my guess is the Alpin 5 is not actually out yet, is that right? So I think I am basically looking to get the best deal on a set of Alpin NA0 tyres, 245/35-20 fronts and 295/30-21 rears with NA0 rating as advised by the OPC. Would you agree?

PS I don't want to buy a second set of wheels because I have specced the expensive Spyder rims and they look ACE. I want to use those all year round and get my money's worth out of them. I am completely aware that narrower and smaller diameter wheels work better in snow etc.

All advice appreciated as ever.
Thanks.

Buy the N rated tyres that the OPC has given you the specs of....it’s not just sizes it’s about load ratings etc and Porsche and the tyre manufacturers do a ste load of work on the spec of the tyre compounds to make sure they work well with the car.

NAx is the homologation for the 992.

Personally I would not spend a lot of extra cash on a homologated winter tyre, but can appreciate why some might especially with it being a brand new car. Edit : in response to Chieb's point you can select a tyre that has exactly the same load rating and is not homologated.

Those dealer prices are ridiculous. 245/35_20 PA5 NA5 £326 on pneus. 295/30_21 NA0 £332 on camskill incl VAT. £1316 all in plus fitting. You may find a local supplier who can match or get close. Obviously someone who will take care of those spyders!

Thanks guys.
I believe N rated tyres are needed for warranty reasons?

I'm sure there are a load of threads on this one on multiple forums. Keeping with an N rated tyre on a brand new car is a good position to maintain.

Forgot to mention Continental TS 860 S may be an option; check them out on mytyres.co.uk, available in NA0. It outperforms the PA5 in just about every category and costs less. (~1100 for a set)

Thank you, very useful post!
The Contis look great in that test. But mytyres don't have the fronts in NA0 spec, just N0 and I want the fronts and rears identical. I'll keep looking round.

The only full set of available "NAx" tyres I have found are Michelin Alpin 5 NA0 at mytyres.co.uk coming in at £1,514 delivered. Fitting would be on top.
