I had my 2002 996C2 MOTed the other day at Kwik Fit thinking that it would be straightforward as it had been serviced at East London OPC a couple of months previously.

However, the car failed its MOT because the "Anti-roll bar linkage ball joint dust cover no longer prevents the ingress of dirt Offside Front Upper [5.3.4 (b)(ii)]".

Is this something simple that can be fixed cheaply by any garage or is it going to cost an arm and a leg and will need to be fixed at a Porsche specialist/OPC?

Thanks, Quyen

Thank you for the prompt reply.

It's reassuring to know that it's a common fault that's easy and cheap to fix.

Cheers, Quyen

Front drop links are about £20. Do both.

Worth considering that the mild steel link bolts can corrode into the aluminium hub, and take some shifting.

I replaced the drop links on my 996 a few months ago. Had to use a grinder to cut off a couple of the bolts that were seized but it still didn’t take too long.

This. Also much worse on a C2 than on a C4 however, any garage in the UK will be pretty handy with an oxyacetylene torch.
