Picking up a new 992 Carrera tomorrow (very excited) and just been asked to set this up.

Now the insurance company didn't ask for a tracker but is this just a no brainer or are there downsides with having to carry a key or fob etc?

Should I just pay the 219 and get on with it?

What is the general consensus?

It saved me c. £250-300 when insurance shopping (paying £700ish, 4yr ncd, 6k miles, social domestic only, good postcode, 992C2S) so was a no brainer. Also, if you want to use the 5 day complimentary porsche cover, you need one! As a measure, Porsche insurance quoted me about £1250 with tracker.

Tomorrow should be a good day!

Just use the iphone app. It tells you where your car is and costs nothing extra!

I find it a pain in the arse (literally) and I’ve had quite a few issues with Vodafone not seeIng the car which entails a visit to the OPC to reset and if that doesn’t work they want it for 2-3 days!

The new style fob is even bulkier than the old one so even more of a pain to carry around as it won’t fit in my wallet.

I think the scrotes that nick these cars also know how to disable the tracker which makes it a bit pointless IMHO.

Dont think they are much good for bank jobs or dealing out of, hence insurance really is not too bad all things considered. Far less than an RS3, not dissimilar to an M2 Comp which I did briefly consider. Guess if its stolen to order, and off to eastern climates, its going to go, no matter how well you protect it.

I agree, only reason to have it is if it makes financial sense from an insurance perspective, for me it did.

Didn't bother when I picked mine up. Admiral didn't need it - £780 with no NCB (just moved back to the UK) and dealer didn't say anythginabout been needed for the 5 day drive away insurance.

New Vodafone tracker fob is about half the size of a credit card and about 4 cards thick. No hole so you can hook it onto anything.

No, they did not mention it to me either until collection day. Then they couldn’t turn the tracker on due to a technical issue. Went home in a courtesy 992 as I refused to have a £100k car on my drive without theft cover. Was not happy, but st happens, life has moved on!

My ( very reasonable) Insurance required tracker , so just paid up. I balanced up the various quotes with ones not requiring and just consider the price part of the total insurance package price.
It is in the end an option which is hopefully a waste of money ....until the unthinkable happens . It might just make the difference.

On the price comparison sites you'll need to tick Tracker before many of them will quote.

When looking up the car, I found some of them lacked details like parking sensors, brake assistance etc.

Tick the boxes for those and Tracker, and got a very reasonable price from L&V

Insurance Co insisted on it being active on my Cayenne as they are “ram raid favourites”. On 997 turbo there was no premium discount so I’m relieved I only have to carry one fob!
