I have a question. With the emergence of the Spyder and the 911R / Touring is it possible to take off the rear wing of the “normal” GT3 RS for cosmetic reasons - or do you need to do other adjustment to compensate for the loss of downforce.

Absolutely however avoid high speed(over 100 mph)..There was a thread very recently where a US company made the rear Gurney end extensions to fill the void left by removing the big wing..Looks good especially if you want to travel around incognito by removing the wing..
Not much you can do to reduce the front downforce to balance apart from fitting some blanking plates to block the front wheel arch louvres.

one would have to be stupid or mental to risk the unbalance of such a daft thing.

Another well qualified and thoughtful response to a genuine question - keep it coming.

I lost the rear wing of a 997 Cup through a ‘love tap’ during a race. Didn’t make any difference to my times, just a bit more rear tyre wear which was manageable.

Wouldn’t bother me to drive a wingless 991 GT3 at speed.

At road legal speeds I don't think even you 'R' would be able to discern if the rear wing was fitted or not, if worried, put a bag of spuds behind the seats.

I really don't think anyone turning up at a track day would be sans wing, for day to day I think the small wing ends look good.

R knows a lot about nothing.
Try it and see,the only place i could realy tell the big wing was doing anything was at spa.
I very much doubt the front wing vents are doing a lot, apart from some small pressure, looks good though;)

I think that B2 might be interesting without a rear wing

Maybe a silly question;

If you had an incident on the road, could an/your insurance company fail to payout? (Or find some reason not to pay due to down force or non factory spec)

That is a good point actually. I use the GT3 RS (sparingly) in Germany so V-Max is a possibility. I will check with Porsche in Munich as the car is booked in for an airbag recall. But it was only a question because everyday practicability would be greatly enhanced without that wing blocking your rearward vision.

...alternative is to get some cup car uprights (and a little machining) and raise the wing so that you can see under it. Works perfectly on the 997 RS

...you can see from the rear here it totally opens up the rear view (essential when moving on and you spot a plain 5 series behind you smile )

I’ve done some aero tuning in the past.

Under 70mph you probably won’t feel much difference. From 70 to 120 mph you will possible feel a difference and the balance of the car will probably change. Over 120 mph you are starting to get into fairly big changes in feel, balance and grip levels, even from fairly innocuous looking aero changes.

Putting a sack of spuds in the car is not going to compensate for removing the wing.

I like the way it looks, but suspect in Germany TÜV and as a result insurance would be void

Yep and it does induce bouts of inferiority complex and wing envy for others in a less endowed 7rs! biggrin

The only thing Manthy do these days is add more aero to get faster times. Today’s cars that’s where the performance gains are to be had now cars are getting faster and faster, lift is not nice in a car at 140mph esp at the top of eu rouge.

Yep, the modern GT cars have enough power to warrant adding downforce but it’s only relevant on the race track and only very few sections on a handful of circuits. On the road they are irrelevant but it’s nice to have a link to a GT cars racing DNA. I’m happy with or without a spoiler on a GT road car
