Considering swapping to a performante this year. Have you any experience of it compared to a 991.2 gt3? I am interested in your thoughts.

Cheers chaps.

great car, a bit too fast and a bit too wide, good value though at £165k, but most people I know who had these all said it's too fast !!!

Too fast? Not sure I agree with that. It's more fun at low speeds then the 720s IME. It is very very quick, its very noisy and good fun. 4WD means pretty safe to drive in most conditions. Good fun on track as well. If you are too tall it's going to be a struggle I am looking at adding a GT3 at the moment,

I have a performante and a gt3 rs and if it were a traffic light gp then the perf would win hands down.
I have tracked the rs but not the perf yet but my gut feeling is that the performante wouldn’t see which way the rs went over a lap.
If you are over 6ft then the perf isn’t for you in my opinion unless you have the racing seats which are slightly lower but extremely back breakingly uncomfortable.
Best thing to do is go and try one out.
Good luck.

The performante will have some issues getting through noise limits for quite a lot of circuits as it is as you say rather noisy. And iirc it actually doesn't have brake ducts. That plus no harness option makes it to me anyway a non option to be used regularly on track though which is a bit of a shame as it's an awfully good car with a superlative engine (which blows the socks off any gt3 engine imo).

They're not actually that fast to be honest D. Noise is something else but there's much faster cars out there. By way of example a performante struggles to live with a stock 580bhp 991.2 turbo s both real world and up a drag strip. Surprising given it has 640bhp

Does sound odd saying that about a 640bhp car! 720s redefined fast.

The thing is we don't live on drag strips ;-) and the perf does 150mph in the same time as most roads cars get to 60 !

I am only going by owners stating the performance windows is massive for the road and thus not as exciting as one might think.
I like the cars bar the image of Lambo's

in what way ? the Porsche engine has more BHP per L and that manic 9k red line.

I agree the v10 is a amazing engine, but the Porsche engine is a better one technically.

.
interesting as the lap time say other wise, remember the new RS is on R spec tyres for the laps also but is slower than the RS on the same circuits.

The Performate has the RS beat on quite a few tracks.

Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours GP
147.52 vs 1:50.36

Hockenheim Short
1:05.50 equal

Willow Springs
1:22.53 vs 123.67 !!

Le Mans (Bugatti)
1:42.49 vs 1.44.06

Latest Harry’s Garage vid talks about the issues of being a tall driver. Tape measure and scales out....he really is the thinking Petrolheads vlogger of choice !

"is a better one technically" - Exactly the kind of line you want to describe a highly emotional part of a sports car. Sorry, the v10 (even with its less than "magic" 8.5+k redline) trumps a GT3 engine, regardless of its technical prowess.

I can't comment on the .2 GT3 but I had a .1 GT3 whilst having the Performante. I still have the latter.

As a track day car, the biggest issue is they just aren't common. Geo setup is made using shims which is a pain but there is a few guys out there which have begun modding them. Brake cooling is the biggest issue to overcome, then the noise (isn't this the same for the GT3 though?), then the geo.

I would say the Perf is faster in a straight line and and around a track; it feels thrillingly fast and the V10 is just another dimension.

All the carbon is lovely, and alongside the Porsche looks pretty cheap. Just bear in mind what's cheaper to replace if you were to have an incident! I believe the front carbon bumper is a five figure some. I didn't buy the Perf as a track day car as I am fortunate to have better tools for the job, so not really an issue for me .

As an everyday car, much like the GT3 these days you can use them as a daily if you so wish. The lack of soundproofing is the only thing, but otherwise in Strada it is pretty quiet. The only problem is when making calls can't hear you very well. But the stereo is good, the ride good... only thing I'd like to change about the car is to have the exhaust on whilst other bits are in Strada. For someone reason you can customise this in my RS6 (it uses the Audi MMI) and in the Aventador S (known as Ego mode), but you cannot in the Perf - annoying!

For me, right now, they are an absolute bargain compared to the Porsches.

EDIT: As someone has said, they do not suit tall drivers. Anything above 6'2 I would say needs the carbon buckets, and to fit in them you need to be fairly slim!

they are massive seats and rock hard I found and I mean rock hard nasty things.

I like the normal seats they seem to hold you better and are softer, they really are still a bucket seat to be fair.

massive things I found when on my test drive and my bum hurt...in no way are these slim seats !!!! I felt like a kid in them !! 12 stone 5.10, zero support.

And for me I couldnt do without them. You sit very upright and you get a bit of ache after a couple of hours of driving, but I love them. But I am 34, 5'10 and pretty fit... maybe I am a rare breed wink
