997.2 C2S PDK advice
Discussion
My good friend has offered me his 2010 997.2 C2S PDK for £40k. It has very low mileage (9k) and is showroom condition. He has owned it from new and I live in the same road as him so I've known the car and it's history from new. This would be my first Porsche and is a life long dream to own a 911, I'm currently in a W204 C63 which I still love but.... it's not a 911!
My concern is that 40k seems like quite a lot for a 10 year old car (albeit a very good one). For not much more I can look at 991.1 C2S or I've even seen 991.2 GTS for 75k. Obviously there is a big difference between 40k and 75k, I can afford both but I'm thinking a 2 year old car for 75K is worth the extra and will be something I can keep for 5-10 years
Would I be mad to pass up the 997?

Really depends on what value you place on owning a very low mileage 997 over a 991.
You need to drive a 991 which is different in many ways to the 997 and see which you prefer.
Pity your pals 997 isnt a GTS as it would be worth top money!
Funnily enough the only 997 I've ever driven was a GTS (albeit manual) and loved it. I can't imagine a C2S is going to be that much different to drive than a GTS. Incidentally, I had the chance to buy a nearly new 997 GTS for 62k back in 2011, should've snapped that up! I've driven a couple 991.1 at the Porsche experience centre which felt like a step on from the 997. The only 991.2 I've tried is the Turbo S (again at the PEC) but that's a different kettle of fish. I much prefer the looks of the 991. I suppose there is no wrong decision, both are great cars.
If price isn't that much of a bother then buy the car you want. A big difference between the two cars, although sounds like you have experienced a variance of both so can make the decision. I guess the 997 might've bared most of it's depreciation and any future cost would be maintenance.
Yes, likely to be low maintenance on a low mileage car but some things like brake discs do start to corrode over time and the process is sped up by lack of usage. If it has warranty then the private sale will mean it transfers to you, something you wont get going elsewhere (unless buying from an OPC)

With the mileage, it's a fair price.
Last of the truly analogue 911's, modern enough to use, old school enough to feel like a modern classic.
You may end up replacing a few bits that corrode, exhaust brackets, heat shields, maybe some suspension parts etc but not that much.
I'd buy it at that price, look at the ones on PH with sub 30k miles are mid to late 40's so spec dependent, that's not too far off trade price.
Their price has softened a smidge in the last 12 months, but I reckon you'll probably only lose £5k off that in the next three or so years.
Plus, you could get an inspection to pick up anything that needs doing, then use that to haggle a bit.
