Stuck in Asia, Service Due, warranty issue?
Discussion
Here’s a question that I’d never thought I’d never have to ask!
Due to current travel restrictions, I’m going to be stuck out in Asia until ‘normal service’ resumes.
My car is SORN (only use it 6 months/year) so it was prepped and stored for the winter
I had it booked in for its MOT & service at the end of the month as it’s due but I’m not going to be able to return to the U.K. until who knows when,
Will not having it serviced within the specified time frame void the warranty????

Email your service manager and get it in writing. Or write to PCGB. If you're not driving it, don't see an issue. Dealers could close as a precautionary measure too but if you have something in writing, you have basis to argue any issue and if anyone queries timings, simply produce the email. Anyone else in your house that can sort it, partner? Some garages will pick up a car for service/MOT depending on distance vehicles etc.
What would honestly be the point? Circa £1500 bill for it to be taken out of hibernation to be put straight back in and unused until who knows when?Hopefully it wont be too long but initial thoughts are 2 to 3 months maybe
I ‘just’ called the OPC and was put through to the after sales manager, his opinion was that as the car is not being used and my reasons for being unable to get the car in for service is justified & explainable the the warranty ‘should remain intact’

You done correct, you wont have a problem as they are fabulous to deal with.
Not sure ‘fabulous’ is a word I would use.You done correct, you wont have a problem as they are fabulous to deal with.
So, I've had a response but is very ‘on the fence’
“I can confirm your vehicle warranty will remain in place. If there were any failures found on the car due to the incomplete/late service we would have to discuss at that time on whether or not the failure would be covered.
Officially the failure would not be covered, however, this is an unusual circumstance so it is something we could discuss with Porsche Germany (PAG) if there are any issues found.
Should you experience any issues with your vehicle on your return which are related to the service work not being completed, please do advise your Porsche Centre to contact me and we can investigate to see how we can assist”
So, the warranty remains in place but any failures would still need discussion due to the late service!!!
Not really a positive response but a response nonetheless

As said, put it straight in and you will be fine. I think there is a huge headache coming for them as BMW have stopped production, expect Porsche to do the same.

I would ask them to contact Porsche Germany now for guidance. You won't be the only one in the UK with this issue as more people are placed in isolation or lock down in the coming weeks. In Spain for example the whole country is in lock down and as a result people will be missing service intervals. So PAG will already be aware of this issue and will need to provide official guidance for each country if they have not already done so.I've not even picked up my 'new' 911 and now stuck overseas!
Am in discussion with OPC and Porsche GB about starting the 2 year warranty from when I actually pick up the car (OPC are hibernating it for me and it won't have turned a wheel since when I completed the purchase a few weeks ago).
Am also talking to VWFS about deferring the start of the finance as well, otherwise I am paying (handsomely) for a car I am not using.
Will update when I hear back from them both!!
