Does anyone utilise a rear mounted bike rack on a 991 GT3RS they could recommend please? It needs to carry at least two mountain bikes. Thanks in advance.

My Porsche bike rack has a VW Tiguan attached to it.

Mine has a range rover or an amarok attached. Clever plonker.

I need one for a specific euro trip I'm planning in the gt3 later this year.

Amy proper responses welcome.

Sea sucker is pretty much your only option.

I have the single bike one on my gt3 and works well

I wanted to avoid anything on the roof that's all. Id prefer to be able to keep an eye on the bike occasionally via the rear view mirror.

People have fitted them on the rear window then the wheel on the spoiler. Personally I put mine on the roof, but only on the front where the metal bar is at the top of the windscreen. My rear wheel then sits on the rear glass

Does the GT3 not have rack mounting points in the roof?

Have you used rear mounted bike racks before (not tow bar one obvs)? I am struggling to see how you would attach one because they rely on the top of the rear lid and an anchor point on each side under the rear bumper somewhere.

Perhaps you could tie it to the rear wing and you can fit the rear towing eye for one lower anchor point. But to hold 2 mountain bikes, for a long euro trip?

Sounds like a complete non-starter to me.

Rooftop is surely the only way, using factory roof rack mounts assuming they’re there (997 has them).

Would be a great trip if you can get the carrier sorted. smile

I've performed extensive testing of the Thule 561 Outride rack and it will (if you are willing to ignore the impact on your fuel economy) happily hold a trail bike on the roof at 100mph for extended periods of motorway/autoroute. If you get the wheel holder thing then you can put the bike and front wheel on the roof, leaving the boot for your helmet and pads, and the rear seats for your bag of clothes.

This has been talked about before for 997 https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=17...
Check out Thule website for 991?
I think I would be a lot happier with attached roof bars

I think you're right, roof is the way to go. I can't see where the straps would go.

Guys, how do you adjust driving style with a bike on the roof? Would you still use full cornering capacity of the 911? Where do you top out speed wise on Euro trips?

I have the factory RTS and Thule 591 setup on my 997 but always feel that if I take a corner "properly" (am no driving god...) it might damage/bend something. Same with autobahn driving, wouldn't dare to go over 100mph, if that... I did go a bit more with skis attached, ok, but they're not as unwieldy.

This all becomes relevant when doing 1000+ mi of road trips mixing motorway and alpine roads.

Sorry for thread hijack but just thought its relevant here and thought I'd ask given there are a few (rare) 911 cyclists.
