Any problems associated with the sunroof on 991s? I'm thinking primarily of squeaks and rattles - either from the thing itself or because (presumably) the body shell is less rigid than on cars without.

Grateful for your thoughts...

They can squeak, particularly in wet weather. The 'cure' is to apply a lubricant to the seals. Porsche techs seem to be very well practiced at this, but the results are not consistent - in my own experience, the cure might last anything from a couple of weeks to more than 1.5 years (at which point I sold the car).

This was the one compromise I had to make when buying my car. I wanted a car without the sunroof, but I'm glad I have it now.

No squeaks, leaks or other issues at all. Certainly haven't felt that it noticeably affects the rigidity of the bodyshell - although if I tested an equivalent without, maybe it would be clear.

In terms of weight, no issue for me. This is in no way an under-powered car!

I like it. It's an airy and light cabin, and this adds to it. Unless it's raining, I always tilt it open as it helps me hear the exhaust even more loudly. Visually, it works with the black exterior trim, I suppose - the 'black strip' all the length of roof looks fine. It's all good.

Thanks guys. I'm having second thoughts about a Boxster GTS 4.0 on the basis that I might find myself a bit a lukewarm for top-down motoring. In a 991 with the roof open there would be less road noise and probably wind noise too, so listening to the radio/sounds would be possible. Wouldn't it?

Mine rattled after about 2 years and was sorted with grease under warranty, subsequently no problems and I open it frequently

Thanks RR. I would have agreed with you on the coupe with sunroof vs roadster issue if I were not undecided about whether 'wind in the (no) hair' is really for me - I don't want to find I've spent 75K and found a large chunk of disappointment. I'll get a ride or a test drive in 718 Boxster and take a view.
