2001 996 Opportunity
Discussion
Hi everyone
Not owned a Porsche before so doing some checks before I purchase.
Opportunity to buy a 2001 996 C4 3.6 for a reasonable price. Has done 135,000 miles, FSH and a recent check over by Porsche has identified
- small leak from oil cooler
- hole in rear exhaust box
Would welcome any advice on what expenditure required to fix these issues.
Thanks

If you head over to 911uk there’s a strong following for TopGear exhausts for 996s....considerably cheaper non OEM exhaust boxes & also less than Dansk, or the OP could just buy a used pair of OEM boxes.I bought a Top Gear 'Mild' sound stainless Steel back box, they RRP at £499 incl VAT but had a 10% ebay voucher last winter, I believe they do a 10% discount if you mention 911uk.com
Really nice sound, raspier compared to standard but not obnoxious, glad I didn't go for the full sports sound might have been too much.
My local indy fitted them, think it was about 1.5hrs labour plus genuine clamps, the ones TG supplied are not the finest quality.

This is my 3.4 fitted with the TopGear mild sports and 200 cell cats. I also got stainless steel headers off eBay but not necessary and can be very costly to fit as the studs usually break requiring new ones to be fitted. Iirc about £700.
