I've been keeping my eye out for a 996/997 manual. In NZ there just aren't many cars. This would be a car that both the wife and I would drive. We are quite happy with the idea of a 4 wheel drive for the added security if the weather is bad. We've got a 111R Elise and a 4.7 V8 Vantage but occasionally we want to fit 2 kids in the car. (9&12 yr old) It would get spilt duties with our other cars.

I've found this, I think it looks like a good one but I would love some feedback. Full PSH from the same group my Aston goes too.

I have had mine for 3+ years - get an inspection, hit the high notes of care over the years and go for it.

For what it's worth, the spec looks great. Suspension refresh is an absolute must, i did mine with Ohlins R&T and there isn't anything i'd rather hustle on a sunday morning or nip to the beach with the family in for an icecream.

Thanks for the words of encouragement Liam.

I've organised an inspection for Thursday morning, an independent Porsche specialist is going over to look at it for me.

Service history and chat to service department suggest its a good clean car. Waiting for Thursday.

Looks like a great car. Coincidentally my 2001 996 C2 spent part of its life in NZ. Any idea what a Tip is worth there now?

Bear in mind it's 20 years old, and things will go wrong. Mine has 100km and is immaculate, but it's had the following break/fail in the five years I've had it: A plastic part leading to coolant leak, oil filler cap split (still not resolved), spoiler mechanism, alternator / air compressor pump (still not resolved), door lock and remote central locking (still not resolved), OEM stereo, fuel pump. I probably have gotten off lightly, but there always seems to be something to fix.

A proper inspection for $150 is worthwhile. That said, I had one done and the above problems still happened. I think the inspection even missed the failed spoiler. They are great cars though. My two eight years olds don't really fit into the back seats.

This is the key thing an inspection needs to do. Pics of all cylinders.

Cars like this in NZ are generally in good condition. Most nice cars are garaged and we don't salt our roads. I think a Tip is NZ$30-40k now. I know there are a couple of bits on the car that need attention. Front top mounts are cracked. It has had quite a bit of love, a LN IMS was fitted 3yrs ago and I have all of the service records for the last 4 years.

It's going to be a bit more than $150 for an inspection as the guy has to drive 130km to go and see it.

I'm only hoping we can fit one adult and 2 children in it not 4 up.

I'm not sure this can happen. The car is over 400km from me and 130km from the guy that will inspect it. He is going to drive over with a jack etc and give it a look over but i don't think this will include bore scoping.

He's going to do a report and I will use this to decide yes or no.

He going over in about 6 hours so wish me luck.
