If you are of a certain age and decide your 997 .1 or .2 needs a bit of an upgrade to say a 991.2....i guarantee you will think the 991.2 is the bees knees for about a month and then regret your decision and want your 997 back....far too capable, far too boring, and far too any other capable fast car....luckily because of gross mis-selling i was able to return my 991.2 and get back my beloved 997.1....this was a manual 997 v 991 PDK ...and used as a toy...Plus the wife could drive it with ease whereas she had no chance of even depressing the clutch in the 997

Please describe the gross mis-selling of the 991.2 (mention no names).

This guys a total joker. I bet the dealer would have gladly taken the car back and given back his old banger. What a divisive post why not just say I didn't like 991.2 and got my old car back. Welcher was the first thing that springs to my mind.

How about new front bumper
New Passenger side air intake, radiator, indicator
New PS Wing, sill and rear quarter
New PS compete front & rear suspension
Not recorded
Then there was isuues with number of owners, replacement service book etc.
As i say great car and my 997 would not see which way it had gone, but i will not be buying another.
When i was talking to an accessor at a Porsche approved bodyshop he reckoned it was a small repair
compared to some they do...taking the front end back to the bulkhead etc..and a lot not recorded.

With every iteration of the design it becomes a better, more modern, more civilised every day driver. And with that it becomes less of a petrolhead toy.

So in the eyes of the dealer... “light cosmetic” damage.

How did you find out? What caused you to be suspicious?

Was this the red manual car that was for sale for an age? The pics of the smash were on v-check if I remember correctly but wasn't coming up as recorded on other checks.

Each to his own.

I loved my 997.2. Great car to drive, plenty of power, faultless handling, low depreciation, reasonable running costs, PDK fantastic but a little clunky, disappointing exhaust note from PSE, acceptable cabin and driver tech, slightly obtrusive tyre noise when M25 cruising. In my eyes, the pinnacle of elegance in modern 911 body style.

By contrast my 991.2 is a great car to drive, even more power, hopefully low depreciation, and reasonable running costs. PDK fantastic and not clunky, improved PSE would still like some pops and bangs, better cabin and driver tech, still slightly obtrusive tyre noise when M25 cruising. Slightly over-fussy body-style less elegant but more muscular.

Both fantastic cars.

Would I go back to the 997? No, on balance there's no gain.
