Afternoon

First go in a 991 with a pdk box yesterday - great car, but when in manual pushing forward for up and backwards for down.

Does that seem right ? I though most sequential boxes were backwards for up and forwards for down.

Thanks

OP, latest PDK has the operation reversed. Whichever you have you get used to.

GT PDK cars pull back to upshift and forward to downshift, nothing abnormal about that, same as a manual box.

So changing from second to third on your manual box you move the stick backwards do you ?

I have a 718 BGTS and a Macan both with PDK one you pull backwards to change up, the other you push forward to change up - now that IS confusing. I tend to stick with the paddles !

Pretty sure Melvynr would have been talking about a manual sequential box, as the OP was talking about sequential boxes.

I think most don't use the gear stick anyway, I certainly don't.

↑↑↑↑ This,

when selecting manual I always use the paddles, can't see the point in taking your hands off the wheel when it's not necessary, same with the Dsg boxes on our Vw's.

Changing with the central gear selector is quite useful I find during turns, when the paddles are not always easily to hand.

My 981 had the idiotic push forward to change up setting which frankly defies all logic. Thankfully they fixed it in the later cars, e.g. the 718.

I use the stick a lot of the time, I find it nice and tight and engaging. Miss the traight that the DCT in BMW does when cruising in say 7th, you pull the minus paddle in and hold, will drop you down to 3rd in an instance either in manual or auto mode.

I think they all do now. Certainly my 2018 Turbo did.

This. I just use it pulling out of junctions for the 1st to 2nd change when the wheel has a tight lock on.

You do get used to the direction, but I agree it doesn’t seem correct - latterly fixed

That would be too much for me !

The shifter motion on the 991.1 is consistent with the standard steering wheel where you push the buttons to change up. Same on the 981. The left and right pull paddles came only with the optional Sport Design Steering Wheel which precluded the other multi-function steering wheel buttons. Hard to believe Porsche engineers could not design a single steering wheel with paddles and m/f buttons before the 991.2 in 2016.

Never saw the point of using a gear stick on a PDK....might as well have a manual surely?
