Hi All,
first post in forum so go gentle! I tried to search the topic but seemed to get google ad responses to Porsche Parts suppliers.
Seems the wife left the passenger window open a touch on her 4s Cab.... must have been for a while as the carpet was saturated. Rear lights stayed on and spoiler popped up on starting. At the weekend, I opened the roof, removed the passenger seat and the RCM part number (997.618.260.08)
Whilst still in situ i tried to close the roof, but could here a clicking/short circuit noise. couldn't get spoiler back down or close the roof. Lucking I have it under cover. Lost of corrosion and gunk in the plastic housing. Its been in the airing cupboard in a bag of rice over the weekend. Fingers crossed it dries our and works when I refit. Anyone else had same issue and dried our successfully or had to replace. If so any recommendations where to purchase a used one from? Image for shock value!!

That doesn't look like from leaving the window open for a few days - that looks much worse. I'm not an expert but isn't there an issue where drain tubes get blocked, water collects under the passenger seat and destroys the electronics......

If that's ever going to work again it'll at least need cleaning with isopropyl alcohol - lots of YouTube videos of people cleaning up water damaged kit (tronicsfix repairs games consoles laptops etc with water damage in some of his videos)

That looks rubber ducked to me, the corrosion is quite advanced and like others have said it’s been wet for a while. Drying out will not get that working again, try a repair service or replace it and find out where the water is getting in ASAP.
If the car was mine the seats and carpets would be out for drying, and I would be checking other stuff for any signs of damp ingress and treating it before it kills any other modules.
Good luck with this

Yep and yep..... Having removed the seat and modules, the carpet is saturated, lifted it up and there is ALOT of water a puddle a good centimetre deep. Got an aqua vac to suck it all up. Lifted carpet squeezed all the sound deadening foam, loads more. So defo been going on for a while. Good news is the sealant on the fllor is good so no floor corrosion.

Anyone know where the drain plugs are?

As for the module I have some PCB cleaner... it has been working fine until two weeks ago. So I am ever hopeful!
Thanks for the comments so far will keep you updated.

I removed the airbag ECU from a relative's Fiat Panda that had been for a quick swim in the floods early this year. The only fault that remained on the car afterwards was that the airbag light was on and no diagnostics would communicate will the module.

It turned out that the circuit board looked similar to the above. It was cleaned up immaculately but it never did work again. The replacement module sourced from eBay plugged straight in and has worked fine ever since.

The moral to the tale is that in my experience that ECU will most likely be knackered.

Update: Bad news, all dried out and cleaned, plugged back in and still donald duck'd!
Have bitten the bullet and sending to a specialist to remove carpets and fully dry and replace module! probably a £600 ish bill when done, but the damage internally over the winter if left damp would be worse than the cost. After all there is a post about the 997's turning to classics as time goes by!

It's a common issue with blocked rear drains. My neighbour just had this identical problem.
You will need to replace the board, but please check ALL the drains - front and rear - before you do.
You will need to remove the rear arch liners to do the back ones.
