Porsche 996 Cabriolet engine vibration at 4000rpm

HELP!!! My 2000 996 has started having a weird vibration at 4000rpm. Nothing up until just before 4000 and goes back to smooth after 4000. I know this is where the variocam does its thing. I'm just crapping myself that it could be the engine about to grenade! Don't really want to have to shell out 7k for a rebuild.

Good news, you posted on the right forum, buy a Toyota powered Evora...its a far better drive and it definitely won`t grenade on you!
