My 991.2 GT3 is coming up 3 years old at the end of the year. The car is not tracked, is well looked after, and does about 2000 miles a year. I am thinking to either continue the warranty straightaway at 3 years - or wait until the 4-year service and do it then, saving c. £900.
I would appreciate any thoughts.

No question I would renew, £900 is excellent value for a one year official warranty on what would have been a £130,000 performance car.
Ask Ferrari, Lambo or Maclaren owners.

Also, adds value and confidence if you ever wanted to sell it privately.

My OPC quoted

1 yr warranty extension is £1020 plus £175 Porsche Assist.

2 yr warranty extension is £1840 plus £285 Porsche Assist.

Problem with leaving it until your car is 4 years old you will be out of warranty for 1 year and you will then also incur the OPC 111 point qualifying warranty check cost of c £200.

Worth adding I have had no warranty issues whatsoever with mine over the 5k miles covered since March 2018 and am unaware of any issues affecting the gen 2.

I wouldn’t consider running a car like the GT3 without warranty...depends how you use it to some extent I suppose. You can currently extend the warranty without the 111 point check...don’t know if that’s Covid related or a relaxation of that requirement.

Don't you get that £200 charge anyway whenever you take out the extended warranty?

I might be wrong here - but was thinking the 4 year service negated the need for the £214 warranty check??

If you negotiate it, yes, but officailly you need the check too. OPCs can waive it but it's not a given.

Not if the extended warranty is taken out within 3 years of the cars registration date.

I wouldn't run any modern Porsche or Ferrari without a main dealer warranty due to the piece of mind and the sheer complexities of modern supercars.

Depends how likely it is to go wrong and how many miles you do. £2000 for two years and a few thousand miles driving doesn't sound like good value for "peace of mind" to me, but each to their own smile

Taking the 2 year option and syncing it with servicing and hopefully negating the inspection fee is the cheapest and most convenient/cheapest.
I've done this before but obviously took the obsurd risk of running year 3-4 with no warranty!
I can't particularly see why a non tracked gen 2 GT3 would be more of a risk than any other modern Porsche? Maybe that's a big risk?!
Depends perhaps if you intend to keep it less or more than 2 years.

I think definitely worth it. I had it on my 997.1, and had a couple things fixed which made it worth it.

I'm not sure it has been worth it on my 981 as it has had absolutely no problem. It's incredible that these warranties cost £1000/yr roughly regardless of whether it's an old or new car, or a GT3 or base 981!

The flip side of everything that has been said is that you are doing a mere 2000 miles a year and not taking the car on track. It's highly unlikely you will need a warranty. Mines 2.5 years old and is nearly on 20,000 miles. I have several other Gt cars of varying generations and I have never extended a warranty on any of them and I never had an issue.

You can take out an extended warranty well before the 3 year factory one has expired. If you combine a one year extension with the first service at 2 years, warranty and service will be in sync at 4 years and thereafter should you wish to continue. Negotiate the 111 point as part of the first service cost.
