Has anyone here owned a 991 GTS and Turbo?
Discussion
I am going round in circles in my head and need some help! I am in the lucky position of having the budget and wife permission to add a 991.1 GTS or Turbo to the stable. (I have a C63 6.2 AMG estate as a family car, and a manual Ferrari 430 and 575). I have been around the figurative houses with ideas of 997s and all kinds and am now back to 991, as the car needs to be a good modern PDK.
I drove both reasonable distances when they were new. I remember thinking the Turbo was very sophisticated and impressive but not necessarily fun or thrilling - but a pretty serious car. The GTS I remember as a little bit more connected (although not exactly raw) but slower and less, I don’t know, sophisticated maybe. I can’t really recall.
Has anyone here owned both? I wouldn’t track the car, and while I’d aspire to take it on perfect driving roads, in reality I would use it to take family members or child plus friend to sports matches, parties, and so on, plus the occasional weekend blast.
Any strong views either way would be appreciated, from anyone with experience of both.

Interesting dilemma.
I currently own a 991.2 GTS which an incredible car but now looking to sell and get a Turbo.
I’ve never drive a Turbo but there is something about it that’s drawing me in.
I don’t know if it’s more engaging (others can comment) but I love the styling and shape of the Turbo.
Good problems to have!

I think your recollection is pretty fair. Quite a few people find Turbo's a bit boring but others love them for their straight line speed. I would definitely say the GTS is more of a driver's car...especially if you go 2wd vs the 4wd of the Turbo.
Personally I never want a 4wd 911 as my 911 is not my only form of transport. When the weather is s
t I take a car better suited for it.

I think that’s a fair summary. I’ve just handed my Voodoo Blue 991.1 GTS back to my OPC so if it might be of interest I’m happy to put you in touch. Personally I never want a 4wd 911 as my 911 is not my only form of transport. When the weather is s

I had a 991.2 TTS and my wife had a 991.2 GTS cab, I personally found the turbo very fast but a bit soulless, point and shoot type of car much like the R8.
The GTS had more character but the pops and bags from the exhaust in sports mode soon become tiresome.
The 991.1 GTS is naturally aspirated and sounds much better imho.
The GTS is a great daily car.

Thank you everyone for the really interesting and very helpful replies.
Yes, the 575 manual is rare, 246 worldwide..the only negative with the Ferraris is they are you + 1 seaters which rules out so much driving.
It sounds on balance like the 991.1 GTS may be for me. Although the power factor of the Turbo is just tempting. While I don’t want to race, I also don’t want a car that won’t feel as fast as the rest of the fleet. And that leads me to the 991.2 GTS, but slightly over budget. Therefore the circles.
(The extra element is that whatever I buy will be a cabrio..I just didn’t want that to be a factor in the conversation. I know they divide opinion but it’s a family-permission requirement.)

I think the 991.2 GTS cab is a good looking car,I saw a 992 C4S cab in the summer which was chalk with a black roof, looked great.Yes, the 575 manual is rare, 246 worldwide..the only negative with the Ferraris is they are you + 1 seaters which rules out so much driving.

Here’s the 991.2 GTS we had.
Happy hunting.
Thank you everyone, again. I think the 991.2 GTS cabrio looks great. I loved driving it also. Only reason I am not getting one is budget, around £80k still from an OPC. My wife permission is for 60-70k and for a minimal depreciation car ahem.
If anyone knows of a suitable cabrio please let me know, also what does anyone think of this at auction:

£60k would be an absolute steal for a Turbo cab. I would expect £70k+ but we live in strange times so you never know!
Can't really go wrong with either. I prefer Turbo for all round useability especially in your case given its future garage stable mates! Gen 1 GTS is a lovely engine but if it were a Gen 2 GTS vs Turbo I would take the Turbo all day long (Gen 1 or Gen 2).

Well done. Pics please!
Me? I think you meant me. Anyway, any excuse!I missed out on this car first time around when it was unregistered, in the showroom. So glad to have secured it now, it's meant to be.
I already have pretty much the exact same car, in Carmine. That's going. Lunacy. BUT - look at that colour. Just look at it.
I went to the Historics auction today to check out the red 991.1 Turbo cab. I passed on it, as the condition was not to my liking. FWIW it sold for 61k + 10% premium + 20% VAT = £68,220.
The search and head scratch continues. It may be a case of buying whichever, GTS cabrio or Turbo cabrio, that feels right at the right price. If only there were a GT3 cabrio.

That’s a lovely car. If it had been a cabrio I may have been fighting you for it.I missed out on this car first time around when it was unregistered, in the showroom. So glad to have secured it now, it's meant to be.

Fwiw, as the cabrio element is a red line, personally I'd go for a Turbo. For me, the GTS is about feel - yes, even with EPAS it feels great. It's the sportier, plusher version of the S and as a package, the coupe makes the most sense. I get the whole Targa thing, but I think that extra weight 'requires' the .2 turbo chraged engine.
A turbo cab for me feels and sounds 'right' for your needs. Got all the power needed to overcome the extra weight and is 4wd by default too. A weapon, but also rock solid for family duties.
It's the kind of dilema I love to have. Either way, you'll end with a beast of a car.
60k... id save a few quid, drop the GTS thoughts and buy the best 911 cab I could find. Plenty of cars on the market. The GTS really suits a coupe imho, the extra power, suspension, alcantara. Non of which screams cab/targa. Given you've got a few cars you always find different ones filling a niche, whats the cab for? turbo will be less depreciating but a carrera s whcih will be loads cheaper in the first place, both will be fast enough - for a cab out in the sun.
