Hi,

I'm looking at a SPARCO MARTINI RACING PRO 2000 QRT for my 996.2 2002 Carrera 2. This would be for use for track days with 3 point seat belt.
I have a metropole blue interior and am a big fan of martini stripes so would rather this over the typical Recaro PP.

Anyone have experience installing these in a 996 or 997? Any adviceon what i would need with regards to mounts or anything else? Will they fit?
Would be great to hear from any experience of Sparco Pro QRT for track days and road use.

I've banged a pair of Sparco Pro 2000's in my '99 Carrera.

OEM seat removal was fine, just a single fiddly connector on O/S? For removal - window down, door wide open and aware not to scuff the sill etc
Installed using Design911 seat fixing kit. The kit itself is ok/good for the money, however, it required a shop visit to 'handle' a few runners as the build quality varies...
Build the kit up on the seat then carefully insert inside the car.

Driving experience - yeah, pretty damn good, moves the involvement on a couple of notches. I've also found no issues with full days in the saddle.

As much as I like the PP's, I wanted something a bit different with the Sparco's.

Just to add - those Martini's look lovely, really nice colour, I can see why you'd be tempted to MB interior.

Also - the weight saving over the comfort/sport seats is very positive, should that be your bag.

OP, make sure that you also get all the bolts in to the floor holes before you start to tighten any one of them up properly, and if necessary slacken off the outside mount bolts (that go into the seat from the side mounts) slightly to help with the install.

Some of the side mounts have multiple holes front/back to help adjust the seat height on install so choose carefully as a number only have adjustment at the back which would adjust the angle of the seat and also check whether they have a seat belt specific side mount point as you shouldn’t use a standard mounting hole due to the possible extra load in an accident.

I'm still sitting on these in my storage bin. Need to decide how to mount so interested in seeing what options pop up here.

I put my recaro seats in my 996 with the recaro mounting kit which is designed for the 996/997 - it’s a quality kit with the adapters for the wiring harness too.

This was the video of the install: https://youtu.be/0l2OTcQimt8

Hi - I watched the video. That was helpful, thanks.
I’m short so don’t mind if the seat sits a little but higher - any other issue you can see with using existing sliders?
Thanks!

I think I want no slider. So just bolt to floor with no adjustment. Are there brackets available like that?

Check the dimensions for the floor bolt positions as you should be able to use normal side mounts though you may have to loosen the outside side bolts off slightly to do the side mount fittings (a trick a PH friend who makes racing seats told me).

Ordered the seat from GSM Performance back late December.
After many emails and vague answers on when they would have the seat shipped to me i asked for a refund and placed an order today on ebay where the seat seems to be in stock. Fingers crossed.

In the meantime i answered my own question on mounting brackets for use with existing seat sliders. Brey Krause do some brackets for most popular seats (recaro, sparco, cobra, etc.). They are designed to work with standard 996 manual sliders. Straight bolt on.
The R-9702 seem to fit the bill for this specific one - they are listed as passenger side on the Design 911 website but i confirmed with them they are the ones to order for driver seat in a right hand drive car: https://www.design911.co.uk/fu/prod134948/Brey-Kra...

Hopefully i'll have everything shortly and be able to post pics of it in the car soon.
can't wait for a Sunday drive up to caffeine and machine on dry roads when allowed!

Received the seat after cancelling with GSM and ordering from an eBay outfit.
They sent the grey one instead of blue... hopefully the whole return and replacement won't take forever.

Finally received the seat (after issues with GSM and then an eBay shop sending me the grey one instead of the blue... third time lucky).
Got the Brey Krause brackets that bolt on to the stock seat sliders.

Was a bit of a pain to install but nothing complicated.
However it does sit too high - higher than stock seats on their lower setting. So will be looking at a solution to get it lower.

I’ll share this for anyone wanting to use these seats with the Bret Krause mounts as I could not find this myself prior to buying.

The mounts as standard have the seat sitting too high. You need to have it on the lowest position at the from to clear the steering wheel from legs and as a result you sit not only too high but too upright.
There is however plenty of room beneath the seat for the slider which begs the question - why not have several holes at the back to adjust height??!

So I had a go at drilling the mounts and discovered you need some pretty hard drill bits to get through stainless steel - so on to Amazon for cobalt metal drill bits.

With some patience I managed to add some new holes; both at the back and the front of the mount.
I am now using the lower home that I have added at the back but the existing one at the front.

The result: seat much lower, plenty of clearing space for the slider mechanism, seat tilted back slightly is a lot more comfortable. Massive improvement.

To anyone looking to buy - I would say the modification is essential and the kit unusable stock unless you are pretty short (and I am).

Seat looks great.

Did you consider rerouting the seatbelt through the seat? Or does it work fine like that?

Thanks! I love the look

I have routed the seat belt through the harness hole on the right hand side at the hip. Had not done this initially and once or twice struggled to catch the belt to strap in. This means it’s always to hand and no discomfort what so ever having it there.

Ps. I have no idea why the picture above has uploaded sideways?!
