De-pimping my car
Discussion
So I just very recently got a manual 991.2 S and all good aside from a coupe of points. The car has a pimptastic black tint on the rear windows and I can’t say I like it. It’s that strong I have trouble seeing out of the back window on days like these 😄.
Is think it’s come from the factory like this as a quick glance it doesn’t look like a 3rd party work.
Is it possible? Anyone know?
Thanks

Really not a fan of the drug-dealer tints on any car, but certainly not a 911, and even more noticeable against a light colour.
Aftermarket tints are pretty easy to remove, but yours do look like the OE glass, which probably means replacement of the three rear windows.
Plenty have had it done, inc Chris Harris who is quite vocal on the subject.

Thanks. I was afraid that might be the case which is not great. That won’t be cheap to do I’m sure. Aftermarket tints are pretty easy to remove, but yours do look like the OE glass, which probably means replacement of the three rear windows.

privacy glass is so utterly hateful - i looked at getting it changed on a Ferrari FF i had and the cost was of course ridiculous, so i had to put up with it, but somehow it made a challenging looking car appear even worse. i tend to buy my daily drivers as nearly new to save a fortune in initial depreciation, but try and find an AMG estate or SUV with clear glass, almost impossible in this country. when i ordered a new RR Vogue in 2013 the dealer was incredulous that i wanted clear glass all round. non chav spec if you must.

Mercedes is terrible for forcing privacy glass. If you don't want privacy glass, no AMG or any car with any options (such as sunroof or better sound) is available. Only low spec entry level spec cars and convertibles/roadsters available without privacy glass.

Worth getting some quotes (OPC, independent, glass specialist) to see what the costs might be.
Glass does break or need removing during repainting, so replacement must be a fairly regular occurrence.
I might ask the OPC but I can see it being expensive given thr gas’s probably needs replacement Glass does break or need removing during repainting, so replacement must be a fairly regular occurrence.
