996 door locks/ignition switch problems
Discussion
Morning All,
Sorry to post yet another thread on this, but I'm struggling to find useful information in the sea of internet advice telling me to buy $9 VW switches from NAPA (whatever that is)
I think I have 2 separate issues
1 - drivers door lock barrel seems to be spinning in the door and doesn't do anything
2 - remove key from ignition, no 'click' sound and the dash clocks are still on and the radio happily playing away
Problem number 1 was only discovered after the car has been sat a couple of weeks, and the remote locking died. Feels like there should be locating pins/spot welds or something fixing it in position that have failed
Regarding problem 2, I've already ordered an ignition switch, as it was the cheapest place to start, but not convinced that this will solve my issues. The key not 'clicking' as I remove it leads me to think it might be the steering lock mechanism
I'm wondering if both me woes might be fixed by buying a complete lock/key set? for example
https://www.design911.co.uk/fu/prod5247/Lock-Set-P...
But then, do I end up with separate keys for the locks and the ignition? Do I have to get it coded?
Out of necessity I've been driving around for the past few days in a car that cannot be locked, and is in fact always 'on'. This is not ideal
Any advice gratefully received
