Yesterday I got a company to duplicate the key for my 2006 997. My key was working fine , I just wanted a duplicate.
Having got the codes from Porsche he set about the job.
7 hours later and the ignition won't even turn on and yet they say no errors are showing .
They will have another go at fixing it today. But currently I have little faith in their ability.
Has anyone else had similar issues or any ideas what may have happened.
They are a company who specialises in this kind of thing who say they've done many porsches.abd indeed their reviews are good.
Any ideas or thoughts welcome.
Thank you in advance.

By co-incidence, I was chatting to a well regarded specialist on the subject of keys yesterday (as I am going to need one doing soon). They told me that the process can be very hit and miss, to the point that they have stopped offering it as a service. So, I'm afraid that I can't help much, and wish you the best of luck, but it sounds like the process is known at times to be problematic.

Thank you for your reply.

Yes it seems I've learnt the hard way. The steering lock is on and no ignition. And the car is now to be towed away to an independent specialist.

I wish I'd never bothered

I wanted a spare key for a 2006 997 too. Having made a few calls elsewhere I accepted Porsche's quote, which hitherto seemed too high to consider. The consensus was that I could have problems using someone else.

I am sorry that doesn't help your current predicament. But you aren't the first to have issues.

It would have been in 2009 or thereabouts so I cannot remember.

But when I thought I had lost a 911 key recently I was again shocked at the price to replace. So much so that I decided to not bother with a second key. In the end I found where I had safely put the spare!

I am going to say the quote was in the order of £400 after discount. But don't rely on that.

£400 sounds very reasonable compared to today's prices. My "independent" was charging £325. I'd have bitten Porsches hands off at £400.
Live and learn.
